YFZ 450 or YZF 450

24 posts in this topic

Looking for some input. I have a 2004 YZ250F right now and 2001 400 ex. The quad is up for sale. And i am going to trade up in size with my Yami. I just can't decide on which model. Mainly track use and some moderate trails. Just looking for someone to help points out the pros and cons of both. I looked at Suzuki 's but I decided I've bled blue for too long to change now. I appreciate all your input.

Get the 06 YZ450F or wait till 07. Cause quads are for people who cant stay up on two wheels. Plus some tracks don't even let quads on them.

Ditch the toy with the training wheels.

It's a given one's IQ points drop by a factor of 4 for anyone who even considers owning one of those Water Buffalos.

I have both, I know my I.Q. may have dropped for owning the YFZ but it is fun, but if I had to choose, I would take both.

90% of the people I see riding quads are women, children, and obese people...
You forgot drunks and people who believe that someone might be impressed by their ability to spin doughnuts for 20 minutes straight.

You should put a 426 motor in your 400ex frame, and then post in this forum all the time asking about your hybrid.:ride:

I bought an '01 Raptor and have been riding it until I bought a new, unused, '04 YZ 450F a couple weekends ago. I took both rides to the Oregon dunes last weekend and broke in the 450F and loved it. It's a beast of a bike but I have no complaints. For the dunes, it's nice to have both a 2 wheeler and a quad. They are completely different experiences and they are both very fun.

Since you mostly ride track and trails, for trails I would recommend a Raptor over the YFZ450 since the Raptor 700 has reverse, and it has plenty of power. Hard call though between which ride to sell and which to get. I've used reverse plenty of times i have overshot a corner on a trail or had to turn around on a tight trail because of a fallen tree up here in the NW.
