'05 WR450 runs rough after jumps?

When I jump the bike and if if comes down nose first, after the landing the bike runs rough, misses, won't respond to throttle, etc. And if you try to give it full gas it will bog right down to almost stall.

Any ideas?

Check your kill switch. It may be shorting out.

Yeah, i will look into that in the near future, but this is not the issue here. It seems like the hard impact is losening something or getting air in the line, or electrical shorting, etc....

Probably causing your floats to stick a little. Pull the carb and give it a good cleaning.

No that makes total sense! Why the hell didn't I think of that!?!?!? Yeah, because I just bought it and only took it out once. The prior guy said it's been sitting for 6 months or so. So I planned on cleaning and doing some jetting anyway.

If its been sitting for any length of time, chances are you have varnish buildup from the old gas. Just get some carb cleaner in the spray can from Walmart and spray the crap out of it. Wipe it down with a lint free cloth and you should be good to go. Manually check the floats while you have it apart and make sure they move freely. That should be all she needs. :ride:

After you check your float bowl also check your vent hoses to the carb to make sure they are not plugged and check the gas tank vent hose too.

Or the float level is too high...

We've got a winner! It was a venting issue. I took it to Rampart this weekend and starting hitting some of those whooped out trails and the thing just started dying. I stalled out and looked down and gas was shooting out of all the carb vent hoses.

Took apart the carb their on the trail thinking the float was too high or seat was dirty. All looked good so I turned the petcock on to test to make sure the float seated ok and gas came shooting out with much pressure.

So unscrewed the gas cap and a bunch of pressure was built up. Anyone know how the gas cap and check valve are supposed to work? The check valve in the vent tube had an arrow pointing down and said TANK. So it looked like it was correct, but in that position, if you blew on it, would not let air out. Maybe its supposed to be that way to keep gas from leaking out when you dump it? And the cap itself is supposed to do the venting?

It turned out to be an easy fix. I simply removed the check valve from the breather tube coming out of the top of the gas tank lid and cleaned it with some carb cleaner. It was gunked up a bit and sticking shut.
