Is TimeSert now a TT sold product/ad sponser??

2 posts in this topic

The cool thing about Time-Serts is that they are easier to thread into the re-threaded hole than Heli-Coils, and the installation includes a spot facing operation, which means that particularly when repairing drain plugs, the face of the hole will be square with the bolt, and sealing and seating will be much better than if it were even slightly askew. (OK that's two things :excuseme: )

The only downside is that because of the spot facing, they may not be installable in every conceivable location. The one that comes to mind first is the lower oil filter cover bolt. The threads that strip in that hole are at the bottom of a counterbored hole, and I haven't tried it, but I wonder if there's enough room for the facing tool in that case.

Overall though, they are a great product.
