the dyno answers the question. most pipes in my opinion, are fitted due to habit, 'coolness', because someone who blows you off has one and other such self justifiable reasons. why do graphics sell? I accept that if you race for money and are sponsored, why not fit a pipe and help your sponsors bike shop sell heaps of them, thats marketing. If you are already using all the power your bike makes and 'NEED' more, along with a number of other things, get a pipe. the mechanic i use told me that if most guys bikes are louder, they 'think, feel, beleive' its making more power. plus each time they do a modification, they go out and flog the bike harder than normal and convince themselves it's quicker. i did a mod to my exhuast, and it's now easier to start. whether or not its making more power, i dont know, but i 'think, feel believe' it is. cost $30, so as far as exhaust mods it represents value. unless your into drag racing, i dont think its worth the $, but if it feels good, do it. again, another testosterone based market, basically unessential, the equivelent of cosmetics and face cream for women i suppose. now i think about it, before a ride, several guys i've ridden with say how much a pipe makes their bike faster, which is good....we dont have to wait so long for them.
