YFZ426 advice.

I started asking these in the crf250 forum but I think I am getting a yfz426 now. :D

- Is a yfz 426 alot more powerful than a wr400. I wrode , my friends 400 amd I loved it.

-I am looking at an 2001 anyone have troubles with this year?

- Would $2300 be a good price? i looked on the NADA.com site and that was average pricing. I hav'nt seen the bike yet but I am hoping it is in good condition.

- I am 15, 5'11, aprox.160lb. I can handle my friends 400 easy, will I have problems handling the 426?

I sold my 2002 for 2500 and was happy with that. I would expect to pay less than 2300 for a 2001.

It will be incredibly faster than a WR400. Night and day different.

It is a solid bike, but 2002 may be just a bit better.

You should consider a 250F of similar vintage. It does make less HP than a 426 but that is not a bad thing always. It will be much much lighter and easier to handle. That can make you much faster than the extra HP of the 426.

Good advice...but what kind of riding are you doing? That would help decide between the 250 and the 426. I am about 5 ft 11' and I weigh 165-170 lb's. I ride an 01' 426 and I can handle it great...but it is a lot of bike.

Well size doesn't matter a whole lot. Ricky Carmichael is only 5'5" and he rides one of the fastest 450's around. I'm 5'4" and ride a 426 without much problems. How much experience you have is how you should decide to get a new bike also physical condition if you ride MX is important.

thanks, I dunno if my dad will help me buy it tho. I like the wr400 but I don't think anyone is selling one in my area. that 01` for $2300 was the only one in my area and then there is a crf250r for like $4000. I'll look around some more. so I'll let you guys know later.

2000 models have a clutch chatter, but the 01 and 02 model are pretty much bullet proof. I went with my cousin to go look at a 2000 the other day and the bike has something like 250 hours on it and it started on the first kick stone cold...boiled it over and shut it off and then it lit with the first kick w/o hot start. These things are damn solid :applause:

My answers are the same as FZ1426's answers and I think the 426 would be a good bike for you. Personally I think this bike is amazing, but then again I don't have any other bikes to compare it to. Look for an '01 or an '02 if possible and if it is any help I bought mine for $2000 about a month and a half ago. Good luck and hope you find one. :applause:

Go over there with $2000 cash. I bought my 01' YZF426 for $2000 cash and is has a new white brothers carbon pipe, subtanks and the valves were just checked and they are perfect.

ok, so I'm looking at $2000 cash? it says 2300 in the sunday paper so i don't know. I don't know if that will be sold yet though because I have to sell my dad's 650, my 200, and an old zuke 80 quad. I like the WR's, what is the difference with the WR and YZF?

The 426 is much more powerful and faster than the Yz 400, the Wr 400 is a pig compared to My YZ 400, so the 426 its faaaar more powerful

This guy gave no advice at all!!!!! I hate that so much

But anyways.....as much as I love my Yamaha 's I would say go get a 2002 CRF450 the 426 are heavy big and bulky and handling just sucks....but when or if you do buy a Honda you have that pesky valve issue.

so whats the valve issue on the CRF's? And the WR is a beast compared to a XR200. would the YSZ's be too much? and I here they are same frame so is the ride height taller? thanks for any help.

Well it's not the engine's fault it's honda 's retarted valve train set up. They only did it to be different from everyone else and say that they did it first. The issue is the valves stretch like crazy so you gotta check and re shim alot. I like honda's a lot but only the play bikes and the XR's are well built.

And the WR is a beast compared to a XR200
Well yah it's bigger but it's also got like 4 times the power.

and I here they are same frame so is the ride height taller
The frame on a wr is same as the yz except for like kickstand mount and other little tabs. The subframes are a bit different

I've been riding my 426 since mid Febuary and it is SO MUCH FUN. I was on a crf150 and it's a big jump but I had practice riding my dad and brother's bikes a bit before crossing over to blue. I am 13 and 5'4" and I don't have any trouble riding or starting the beast(or fat pig as my friends call it). It's an AWESOME trail machine with tons of power. Just respect the power the first couple rides and then you'll easily get used to it. Yesterday I was pulling wheelies on this little dirt stretch that was really hard pack and had just been watered and I was having trouble getting the front up so I thought to myself "Maybe this bike isn't as powerful as I thought" but then we hit a dry section and I gave it a good twist and almost had a heartattack when my feet were dragging behing the bike and it was almost strait up and down. I've had about 8 rides on the bike and to sum it up the bike is VERY powerful but needs a bit of suspension work and eats up tires in the summer.

lol, I have, and now I am bored with it.

thanks for the heads up kid on a 426. I've been ridin big quads and my XR for a while so It'll be all good. My friends WR400 is real nice and not too much of a beast so I don't think I'll have trouble ridin a 426. :D ahh man, I'm excited. I think it'll be about a month or so until I get it tho :applause:
