My 426 to 450 Plastics Conversion is Done!!!

what year 450 parts are you using? can one use 06 parts?

thanks

No. Not even close. The 426 and the '03-'05 450 frames were close cousins. The '06 is a totally new animal. You can only use parts from '03 to '05 to do the conversion.

good work...makes me miss my 450 converted 426

I like! Does the '03 tank bolt right onto an '02? Why did you have to change the swingarm and those other hardware pieces?

You said it only took a few hours. Once you had everything did it match up easily or was there machining/fabricating to do?

Thanks.

you don't have to change the swingarm.

Here are the things you do change:

seat, subframe, airbox, tank, rear brake master cylinder, and plastics

Sorry, I actually type pretty fast and my mind can't keep up, I meant to say subframe, not swingarm.

Sounds like everything matches up then-just get those pieces and bolt together. When you say airbox, what about all the boots and seals, can I "transplant" them from the '02 bike?

Thanks for the info, I really want to do this but want to tally the cost so I know what I am getting into.

Would someone mind sending me template for the tank brackets?

Thanks

you will need a new boot for the 03-05 airbox, you can't use the old one.

Not so. You can take the old boot off .....line it up with the new box and drill your holes where you need them. Then assemble the the old boot and new box. Use silicone sealant between the mounting ring/boot/box just to ensure a good seal (this should be done on the older boxes anyway).

The new airbox does not come with mounting holes in it for the boot so it works great.

Does anyone have a template of the tank mounting brackets for the 450 tnak on a 426?

Thanks

Steve

I have done the 450 plastic mod and I never did do the tank brackets the strap on the rear of the tank and the shroud bolts in combination with the seat really make those bolts useless I have dumped my bike a million times with the new plastics and no problems it is as sturdy as can be just get the tank, shrouds, airbox and rear fender off ebay you will have to cut the frame where the subframe and frame meet at the top but it is no bigge just whack it off. The 450 airboot bolts right up so don't even get a new one you will probably spend under $200 if you buy cautiously then sell your 426 stuff on ebay and you will hardly be out of any money I also did the rear master although I don't think it is mandatory just a no brainer. Overall it is a easy mod! JUST DO IT!! :ride:

How much weight did it loose?

Looks good. Wish I could do something like that with my old 400f.

you can do the same mod to your 400, i did.P1010001.JPG

did your old exhuast mount up to the newer subframe OK when you converted your 400? It looks great by the way.... :ride:

yep, its a 04 stock yz450 pipe that also fit with the old swing arm.

Will a 2003-2005 250F airbox work for the conversion?

Where did you find the blue frame guard that is on that 426? Also if its not called a frame guard what is it called? Thanks for any help
