Help with timing to buy 06 yz450

11 posts in this topic

I'm selling my 99 yz400 and will be upgrading to a 06 yz450. I'm in SoCal and can get one(blue) OTD for $6500. But was thinking of waiting till 07's come out and save hopefully 6-800$, especially with red sticker exemption starting 5/1 in many areas close to me. Any concerns with 06 being 1st model year? Appreciate your input.

Tim

This isn't exactly a "first year" model. Yes, there are changes, and the frame is new to the general public, but it's all been tested through the smokers and the engine changes are improvements, not a completely different design (5 valve head, twin cam, etc).

I think you couldn't go wrong with the '06 now or this summer, but it's all how much you want to spend. Is the quality of riding you'll get the next 6 months worth the extra $$ for an '06 right now? That's a ? only you can answer. I bought my '05 in Dec '04, and I never have been disappointed. I upgraded from a '98, so the technology was a huge step up.

I'm actually not overly concerned with the quality, but could hold off a few months for some cash savings. One of the dealers said the price won't change on Yamaha 's when new model year comes out, but he's probably just trying to sell me a bike today. I know the 2005 crf450x dropped a grand when 06 arrived.

I dont see the 06 yz 450 getting cheap for years. The bike is popular and will probably sell out. Unless 07 see's some major changes I would not count on saving much.

If I were you I'd get one now, it's such a nice bike, but I wouldn't pay RRP for it. The '07 isn't far away and they won't be able to sell the '06 and '07 at the same price. So you should at least be able to get it a few hundred bucks cheaper because when you go to sell it you'll have to wear the difference in resale value between an '06 and '07, which is probably at least 500 bucks. Get some quotes from different shops, I got 1000 bucks knocked off(bought it a week ago) the 11,300RRP price here in Oz after shopping around. The money is better in the pockets of the dealers now rather than knocking even more off the RRP in six months time.

Do you guys know for sure if the 07 is going to come out with EFI. If so i may have to hold out on the 06 :ride::ride:
