fuel for 220km

im planning a 220km ride with no place to get fuel. 15/50 gearing, mountainous dirt roads at a decent speed

how much do you guys think i should carry?

14L?

18L?

Simon, I think 14L might be pushing it. I had a 3.4gal ims on my WR. I could get about 170k of "easier" riding(more cut lines and roads, not as much singletrack). 18L to be safe. I use to haul the 1L msr feul cells in my pack

Yep, my 8L tank only gets me ~100kms.

I used to have 15/50 gearing, I got brand new 14/48 on the bike now yet to be tested.

15L is a good estimate. I get around to 16 km per liter (36 mpg) cruising at 65 mph on 15/50 gearing but you probably will only use about 3.7 Gallons so a stock tank plus a gallon should get you there safely. :thumbsup:

i guess i will go with 16 just to be safe

4x 1.5L's will give me the 6 extra.

Wouldn't you hate to have to push the bike the last 5kms!! (or hide it and walk).

I agree with above, 35 mpg seems a good figure...
