Bar Bends for my 06

14 posts in this topic

I had my first ride on the 06. I can't begin to say how awesome this bike is in every way. I need to change the bars though. I'm 6 foot and feel alittle cramped. I was looking at Pro Taper but I can't find any chart that shows what each bend measures. How they heck am I supposed to know the differance between a Windam bend and a YZ High bend?

Do any of you now where they are hiding a size chart for Pro Tapers?

I have tried 4 different bends for the bike. The stock Pro Tapers are just too low, but I liked the way that they feel. I tried a Renthal Ricky Carmichael high bend but they were way too high. The next one I tried were the Renthal Twin Wall Emig bend but I still wasn't quite satisfied yet. I just put on the Pro Taper Windham Mx bend and they seem to have the best feel. I would save the money and just get the Windham bend or something about 99 mm high.

I agree w/ other posters. I went with the Windham bend first. Still wasn't quite high enough for my taste (I'm 6')... so I added a 10mm riser as well. On a track, I can do without the 10mm, but for Desert/Trail riding, I like the additional height.

You are right though... the bike ROCKS!

After you get the handlebar height figured out, you'll also want to swap out the front tire. Plenty of strings on here on that topic.

where do i get the 10mm risers?

anyone got a link?

I like the stock bars (flat bend)

i run bridgestone 401A front and a 402A rear tires. expensive but worth it. make sure to look for the "A's" as they are in limited release. wider tire.

I ride a 2002 YZF426, but maybe this info can help a bit.

I am 6ft 5in and 235lbs. I "had" 10mm risers with Renthal Twinwall (Windham Bend). I think they are 92mm.

This was just too short for me. I have even dropped my pegs with the foot peg mod on the 426.

So now i am trying the Renthal Fatbar RC High (114mm).

Hopefully this is a bit better. I just feel like I am going to fly over the bars sometimes cause when i stand up over whoops, etc, i just am hunched over too far.

Anyways..

Hope this info helps. If not, maybe someone else.

Brian

TT member Coop39 (or Coop37 maybe?) sold me a pair. He had them in 10mm and 15mm sizes. Problem w/ going the 15mm route is that I believe you will need bar mounts with longer bolts. I'm running mine with 10mm with no washer and I can get 4 - 5 threads on in the nut.

If I knew how to post photos, I'd post one. When I bought mine from Coop, he sent me a photo of the install. Pretty slick and clean.

FYI the 15's don't work with stock mounts... even without the washer there isn't enough stud poking through to get the nut started. I wanted the 15's but had to have mine shaved down to 10's in order to make them work.
