So is resale on yz450's impossible or what?

58 posts in this topic

Seems like there are a ton of 04/04 yz450f's for sale & dirt cheap at that and none of them seem to be selling. Am i going to be stuck with my 04 yz450f forever.

I know how you feel. Mine has been for sale since last fall and noone will buy???? My wife and I are not doing so good financially so I thought the YZ would sell and help us out.

I sold my 03 YZ450 for $3000 last month. You just have to be realistic about the prices. They are great bikes but whenever the next evolution of a bike comes out, it knocks the value down of the previous models.

I just picked up a 04 that is spotless it still had the paint on the frame for $3200. You people must have your bikes up for more, or people may not be ready to buy with weather still warming up at least were i live its still pretty cold.

Why??

I sold my '05 YZ450F in December '05 for $4100..took about three weeks to sell.

So if resale is so cheap on 04's and 05's, Would you buy an 06 new, like 6500, or good used for 4000-4500? Need to know, I am thinking of getting an 06, but didn't see or know the used ones were so much cheaper. Very few used bikes in my area.

The 06 is so much nicer!! Its a newer model with lots of goodies and better suspension, motor, and alum frame. you won't find that in the 03-05.

Maybe not everyone else thinks they need a new bike every year, and especially not at $7000.

The prices have been driven down for several reasons...

First, there are a lot of new 2003, 2004, and 2005 bikes still on the showroom floor at unbelievably low prices. I saw one recently for $4299. Why spend anymore than $3000 or so for a used bike when you can buy new for a $1000 or so more.

Two, the bike was not a very good seller in the first place. It is still a great bike, but has limited appeal. It reminds me of the 4 speed open class bikes of the early 1980's.

Three...most used MX bikes fall into the hands of a trail rider. Not many trail riders want a pipey 4 speed to ride on trails. In fact, I think this is why the old 426 has a better resale.

Four, Yamaha came out with the aluminum frame, and the 2005 and earlier bikes look extremely dated--in fact, they look quite similar to the first YZ400Fs that came out. The same thing happened when the first aluminum framed Honda CR250s came out in 1997. The 1996 bike was superior in all regards, however, the resale on steel framed CRs went straight into the toilet.

Hey, if anyone in Washington wants to sell a YZ450... I wouldn't mind one  I've been looking all over for a cheapish 450! And correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard any valve problems for the YZ's

3100 for a 06 ?

Shoot I am seeing them here in Ga with low hrs going for 2500-2700......all day long.

bottomline, there is no good reSALE for YZFs period end here in the good ole USA.:busted:

I traded my 00 426 in January 06 straight across for a snowmobile, both were about of equal value (around $3k at the time). I wouldn't let my 06 go for less than $4k right now, and I'd be dang lucky to get that even though it's nearly spotless with only 35 or so hours on it.
