Expanding stock tank with hot water and air??

Sorry to dredge up history, but did anyone ever decide if this was the way to go? I went on a ride a few weekends ago (about 55 miles) and ran dry 7 miles from the truck with my stock tank. I'm either going to try this or buy the Clarke 2.1 and was wondering if trying this might be worth my time or not.

I remember the articles on expanding the tank.

The one step left out here was that the magazine draped a section of newspaper over the frame tube, and reinstalled the tank before enlarging. It was thick enough to keep the frame recess in the tank from enlarging and touching any components that were there, such as the coil. The perimeter frames don't have this problem.

They were also concerned about stretching the plastic too much and causing thin spots.

Have you guys considered the 07 WR tank? It's 2.1 gallon and should bolt up to the YZ - at least I think it should as the YZ IMS 3.1 tank bolts up just fine to the 07 WR (although we have to use YZ shrouds if we want the underseat tank/shroud bolt hole to line up). There should be quite a few of these available fairly cheap on the WR side as many of us (myself included) have swapped out the stock WR tank for the IMS 3.1. And frankly, I didn't notice any difference in width between the legs between the stock WR and IMS tank.

I bought the Clarke 2.6 gallon black tank. It bolts right on (sort of), looks stock, uses the stock petcock, mounting points and shrouds, and give me something like a 70 mile range.
