Help with Camchain Guide????

4 posts in this topic

Hi again folks, Can anyone tell me how the front camchain guide (exhaust side) comes out? I'm trying to change the camchain but can't see what is holding the guide. Does it just push upwards and out?

Any help would be great.

I believe the piece you're referring to is only removed by separating the head from the cylinder. There is a pocket in the cylinder casting where a boss on the backside of the guide fits in.

You are exactly right. The front guide will not come out until you remove the cylinder head and head gasket.

The good news is you don't have to remove the guides to change the timing chain. Find TDC, remove the tensioner, remove the cams, remove the mag cover, remove the flywheel and stator, remove the 2 bolts from the guide (tensioner side), push guide away from crank, then change the chain and reinstall all the parts. Should take about an hour or so.

Thankyou very much guys!! That is a great help. I was told you could change the chain without removing too much and I have everything off except for that front guide. It just looked too tight to get the chain in and out. Thanks to your help I can now get on with it!! Many thanks!!
