Soon to be new owner - few questions

Hey everyone - I'm about to buy a wr450, and had a question.

My dad just bought a brand new FJR1300 (about 13k) from a local Yami stealership, so I was hoping that would give me a little leverage for negotiating a decent price - but where should I start? It retails for $6800, right? Should I ask for $6800 out the door? Or should I start lower? $6500 OTD maybe? Or am I just dreaming? Oh yeah, I'm in NorCal - I assume demand, and therefore price would be higher than say, the midwest? I'd appreciate any "ammo" you guys could give me.

Oh yeah, I'm going to be riding a lot of sand, in addition to dirt. How much could I expect to find a used rear wheel for, so that I don't have to constantly have a paddle mounted/remounted on the same wheel as the knobbies? Or is that what most people do?

Thanks for any help!

Neil

where in cali are you ,If your in the LA area go to LA yamaha you can just about get it out the door for that price with no hagaling.

Before tax title and other fees you state requires you should be able to get it for around $5900 for a '06' model.

I think $6399 is a fair price OTD. The TT OEM store has them for $6199 but I'm not sure exactly what fees come after that

San Mateo, $6399 OTD. Bought mine from them last year, no hassles. Bay Area Yamaha.

East bay motorsports has them for $6399 too. They had that price in their January special, then again in february, and now again in march. What is the website to bay area yamaha?

Awesome, thanks guys! I'm gonna try for $6400 OTD... Can't wait to join the club!

$6399 leave the dealer w/ a $150 margin. That's a fair price and is what I paid.

That's the main difference between an 06 and an 05. I just paid $5700 for a new 05 WR450F. With the money I saved I was able to buy my six year old daughter a TTR-50E!

If you shop around you might find even a better deal on a new 05. My buddies are all bummed because they paid $400 more for their 06 CRF250x's than I did for my 450.

I paid $5700 for my '05 in Jan. of '05. The same dealer is selling new '06 WR450's for $5895. Are you saying that with the $150 margin, your dealer's cost on the bike was $6249?

I was down in SLO a couple of weeks ago and they had a new '04 WR450 for $3900.00

Good price but no Green sticker.

We're talkin OTD prices. $5700 plus 7.75% tax, license, and set up fees is about $6400 dollars. 7.75% is the tax rate in San Joaquin county. I really doubt you paid $5700 OTD...if you did that is a bomb ass deal

I think what Mr. BRP was saying is was that the price he got the bike at without the fees (likely around $5700) was $150 more than the invoice. $5600 for a WR 450f sounds right for the dealer invoice

You know I would pull the trigger on that but I really want the green sticker.

I wasn't asking the question to be an a$$. I was just wondering how it worked out to a $150 margin at $6399. I realize you get raped on every purchase you make in Cali but I didn't know the taxes were that high in Mass.

By the way, set up/freight fees are nothing but bogus charges that pad the dealers pockets. Find a dealer that doesn't charge them. I got my "bomb ass deal" of $5700 OTD at Romney Cycle. No freight, set up, or tax and new '06's are $5895. Lots of other places have them for that or less too. It's not that special.

The number is 304-822-3933, call them if you don't believe me. I think they are having a big special on leftover TTR's.

I was under the impression you were talking selling price and not OTD. Big misunderstanding there :bonk:

Thats a big understatement

Wow that is incredible, I simply cannot fathom this bike selling for that cheap around here unless its used. If Ca didn't have such good riding I'd move

I believe you, never once did I question you credibility...I just thought you weren't talking OTD thats all.

Already have a TT-R, next logical step is the big WR

We get ripped in Cali because we have to pay sales tax on the purchase. Even if I were to buy out of state I would have to pay tax when it comes to registering it in Cali.

There is some decent riding out here too. Here are some pics of some of the stuff available from my back yard.

Gotcha  We've had this discussion before. :bonk: Since the post I quoted was from Massachusetts I was wondering about the taxes there not California.

I just paid 6400 OTD for a 05 with a Baja Designs kit installed. 500 was for taxes etc., but supply and demand rules. Only one I could find within 150 miles. Most are asking for 7100 in our area on a 06. Not heard of any going for less then 6700 OTD new in our area.
