Spring is on its way, time for a new front tire.

Im looking for a good dual sport tire, I will be riding about 80/20 road/dirt but I want a tire that is still very good in the dirt. Money is not an object. I would like something that will last me a good 2500+ street miles. Here are a few different tires i have found: Bridgestone ED03, Bridgestone ED04, Bridgestone ED08, Bridgestone ED12, Dunlop D606, Dunlop D908, Michelin AC10, Pirelli MT21, and Pirelli MT83.

Has anyone used any of these if so, how did they perform? Does any one have another reccomendation? Also, I have the stock front rim on my '98 650L, what sizes will fit it, it currently has a 80/100-21, would something like a 90/90-21 fit? I would also like a speed rating of at least an S.

D606 front has treated me well (XRR) but it will not last 2500+ miles. Maybe it would but I imagine the last 1000 to 1500 miles will provide zero off road traction.

2500 was really just a number I threw out there, I would be satisfied with 1000 street miles. I also dont want one that will be INCREDIBLE in the dirt, just something better than a death wing. The D606 was the one that caught my eye the best so im glad to hear good things about that.

I would also love 2500 out of D606s but after running my first set I see that ain't gonna happen. I'm trying Pirelli MT21s next just to compare but I suspect I'll get similar mileage.

You'll get 1000 miles without too much trouble. The type of pavement riding does seem to alter front tire milage. Lots of stop and go riding where your using the front brake alot wears down the back of the luggs severely. I've been using my rear brake more and more (when reasonable to do so) to help alleviate that issue.

Another one that really caught my eye. It looks pretty similar to the D606 so I dont know, it may come down to price there... I see both the MT21 and D606 are only availabe in 90/90-21. I currently have a 80/100-21. What is the difference?

Dude, shut up. She hit 95 on my street, I had to lay off because Ive got a knobby rated for 68 mph, and I do not have a death wish. She had plenty left. In fact, you have no room to speak, my bike tops out higher than yours.

Anyhow, backon topic. The XR650L would have one helluva time hitting 110mph. A pipe dream if you will, however, I've had a few come true, lol. 80/20 tar/dirt ratio, pathetic, IMHO. Why buy a dirt oriented machine with street capabilities? Anyhow, you won't get 2500 reliable safe miles out of any tire in reality. If you want a good gripping road tire that will get you down the trail occassionally, try the Dunflop 606. If you want a tire that will stick like glue offroad but will get your tired ass home if you so decide to wimp out and take the street the Pirelli MT-83 scorpion pro is nice and aggressive.

I'm pretty happy with my Karoos. They have very stiff sidewalls and seem to be wearing quite well on the street. No real complaints in the dirt.

True, probably 100 is absolute tops for a stock-cammed and stock-compression uncorked XR650L,

but,

it is certainly not a POS, whatever you think of 'the kid'.

Why go out of your way to be a jerk when you can

... just ... shut .... the ....:thumbsup:.... up?

The kid's mellowed out a bit, how about you give it a try too?

WR, the MT21 is very good everywhere except loose sand and mud, and has very good pavement manners for something that works so well off-road.
