06 boulder protection...

13 posts in this topic

I've got a Works Connection one coming for mine, it's not a "snow shovel" style bash plate but it does cover the frame rails and the front of the motor where the stocker leaves off. Check with Rooster Performance, they may have something by now.

I bought the skid plate from Utah Sport Cycle for the 06 YZ 450-Good fit, easy to install and great protection but I do have a couple of complaints though. First off, the mounting screws are not counter sunk into the the plate. In other words, If you were to take a nasty hit to the bottom side where the mounting bolts are, they could get damaged or shear off. The other complaint is a nasty resonating sound through the skid plate. It is very loud. I think maybe re-installing with rubber washers may help this.

Anyone else having these issues with this plate? Any ideas?

I installed my Utah Sports Cycle skid plate this weekend on my 06 YZ450...I agree with you that recessed screws would be a nice touch however, on my 426 the screws were not recessed and never created a problem. (an audible noise difference I cannot detect??)

On the other hand, I was pleasently surprised by the fit and the ease of installation in comparison with the 426 mounting. Much, much cleaner and tighter overall fit that tok 2-3 minutes to install---no bending and begging for it to line up as was the case with my previous USC skid plate.

I have taken photos and will post them this evening if anyone is interested.

flatland racing makes good stuff. sturdy and always fits nice. has anyone got their rad guards /cages yet? i am waiting on the works connection rad cages, anyone else with rad cages?

I'm also curious to know if anyone has had issues with mounting rad guards with an aftermarket fuel tank on.

Yeah, I havent put one on my YZ yet but it was bad on the WR. Someone on the WR forum said they had the underside lined with Rhino Linings and it really helped. I just got used to it on my WR, but am thinking of having my new one coated before putting it on.
