1997 XR 600- manual or auto decompression?

My bike has neither,and after I put it all back together I may need one.Did that year come from the factory with an auto or a handle bar mounted manual lever.The case near the kickstarter is plugged but the valve cover has the lever....Thanks, Tom

Thgebike has three systems. One is the manual lever that you don't see. The other two are on the camshaft. Of the two on the cam, one is a anti kickback that engages if the engine turns backwards. The other is holds the exhaust valve open part of the time until the rpm gets over 800 or so.

Oh,so there never was a cable running up from the kickstarter like on my XL?Since I have an edelbrock ,maybe I do not need to have a manual decomp....thanks,Tom
