Ti shock Spring

I'm about 210 without gear so I'm looking at a heavier sring on the back. the problem. A Ti Spring is big bucks. It sucks to replace a stock ti with an aftermarket steel. The weight differance is about 2 lbs. Anyone else who's swaped spring, which way did you go?

sell your Ti on TT for a lighter guy on a WR and get a new Ti. My buddy swears by his heavy Ti spring has better dampening control than a steel one. :thumbsup:

I went with a Race tech steel. I have been told if the rate is "measured" it doesnt matter what the spring is made of. I have also been told that the steel is more 'true'. I know one thing, the weight difference is amazing, but so is the price difference. I go 270lbs, so wieght savings isnt one my most major concerns. I have a stock Ti spring for sale too. By the way, does anybody know why there are 3 different springs that come stock on the 06 450's :thumbsup:

I know it sucks, right off the bat I gotta go larger fork and shock springs, then figure a chain, and maybe taller bars and lowered pegs,, waste of some nice stock equipment..

i heard that when you send your shock out to enzo, they replace it with a steel shock, unless you pay for the Ti shock upgrade. I weigh 190lbs, do you think I can still keep the ti spring?

Okay, dont want to hurt anyones feelings here, but reality check.

You weight almost as much as the bike. You think you will really notice a 2lb difference? Dont think so.

90% rider, 10% bike. Holds true. Drop some pounds if you went to get your riding lighter.

zcookie49, I weigh 190 as well. don't know what kind of riding you do but I mostly ride woods, track in the winter and the stock spring seems to work ok for me. Do get a certain amount of big air and really fast in big whoops.

I would think so, I understand that the bike is set for a 185 lb rider. I wouldnt give up the Ti spring over 5 pounds. Plus Yamaha polished the shit out of the fork springs in an effort to reduce friction, I would suggest trying to keep them if you can too.
Hey Black and Blue what do you want for your ti rear spring? Would the spring fit on a 01 426?
I dont know if it will fit. Maybe someone who knows could pitch in. I was told at the dealership it was worth 200 fun tokens used. I heard one went on Ebay for 150.00, Prolly somewhere in that range.

My problem goes the other way, I have the stock 4.9kg./mm Ti spring from my 06 YZ250 that was to stiff for my 135 Lbs. I would be happy to trade someone for a Ti 4.7kg./mm spring.

I just put mine on E-Bay. I'd like to get at least 150.00 for it. That might help me decide if I go steel replacement or TI replacement

i'm 183 and 6'1", my suspension is still stock on my 06 450 my first ride out i had to pull in and get the spring re-adjusted, so far we have the sag set at 93.75 mm and we still not sure if were going to leave it there or what, but right from the dealer the spring need to be re-adjusted

I'm about 190 and 6'1 bike was 98mm sag frommthe dealer. I looked at the spring rate chart and decided to changge the sag to about 95mm. Rear was way too active went back to 98mm and love the way it handles!

Another way to look at that is 90% of guys can't tell the 2 lbs difference, 10% can. I spent the extra money for a Ti Q and can tell the difference in weight. I also have a 2.8 gallon Clarke tank for my YZ450, I only use it when I have to because my bike feels like a pig with the extra gallon and tank weight.

I don't weight as much as my bike though, that does make a big difference. You're right, dropping your body weight makes more of a difference, and it's cheaper per pound than Titanium!

Yeah, no doubt. My fat azz could lose 10-15lbs on a long days ride. I cant tell the difference. Weight has never been much of a concern for me.....obviously. :thumbsup:

Does anybody know where to get the titanium springs? Renton makes them, but does anyone else? I need a 6.2 and Renton makes up to a 6.0.
