JD jetting kit?!

Once I get the AIS yamaha kit which comes with bigger and adjustable jet, will I also need to get the JD kit and zipty fuel screw or are the jets supplied with yamaha kit sufficient?

Ais kit comes with 48 pilot jet and a adjustable needle!

JD kit comes with 2 adjustable needles and 4 main jets.

You will need more main jets if you just get yamaha kit.

And, the fuel screw is not a necessity but it makes it a lot easier to adjust it.

Yes, it is really a necessity! :thumbsup:

Joking..... but it really is!

Have a look at the factory pro kit - way better than the JD kit for sure!!!

Im using the JD kit, and I think its just fine. Unless you are wanting to change out any other jet besides the main. But the fuel screw is a definite must-have. I was down in Phoenix this last week, and the bike was runnin just a little off. a quick half turn of the fuel screw, and i was good to go :thumbsup:

I just finished the factory pro kit and the bike is running soooo strong!!!

the JD kit has sooo much data on this web site for elevation and such that it is tough to look past. I got the zipty kit with all the extra col stuff and I am stoked with it. Having said that, you will have to do some fabricating of the carb, IE drilling out the MAJ and tapping it for a new MAJ. Then you had better be ready to take off the carb multiple times while finding the right mix of jett , needle, float height etc. It is involved but I will tell you I think it is worth it. The performance is amazing.

Also I have to say that the factory pro people are really helpfull!!

Were you running stock before or were you already running JD jetting before going for the factory pro? I'm only asking if you were able to compare the 2 :thumbsup:

I was running sock needle with a larger pilot cuz the bike was sooo lean.

I did ask someone about both kits and they leaned me toward the factory pro kit, but having said that I think that either kit will wake up your bike in a way that you have yet to say wooo hooo about. Just get it done !!!

talk to the guys at JD and the guys at Zipty or factory pro ask them about the kind of power they get from the kit and find what you are looking for.

also, make sure that you have your solution for exhaust figured in as well before you get your jet kit!!!! Or be prepared for more tuning and adjusting!!!

I just put on the power bomb ,scary fast, Q2 , power kit from FMF and after the adjustments on my carb this bike has unbelievable low to mid power now !!! I am soo happy with it. I did fourty miles yesterday and was just smiling all day.

Is the jetting kit supplied by JD sufficient for most scenarios? Will I not need to get any other jets? I only plan on doing the PMD insert and the "freemods" minus the airbox lid mod (I want to keep the airbox as "closed" as possible due to all the sand and dust from dessert).

I have looked at the jetting guide on the forum, but can not distinguish which size jets are stock and which are from AIS removal or JD.

I ride around 0-600ft with temps of around 70degF to 105degF

JD kit just has 4 main jets, they will be sufficiant.

Combined with the 48 pilot jet out of the AIS kit, that is all you will need.

Just get an adjustable fuel screw. The starter motor is in the way if you want to adjust it with out one. :thumbsup:

You might need a 50 pilot jet later on, but only if you get a big bad exhaust system.

I would open up at least some of the airbox as well, and run a filterskin or similar over your folter. I've been to your neck of the woods (Abu Dhabi) a time or two, and have spent many, many hours in the blow-sand dunes. I don't think you'll have too much trouble just losing the snorkle, and the performance increase is big...just keep your filter well oiled and clean it often.

What is the stock pilot jet size? Do both the TT AIS kit and Yamaha kit come with the 48 pilot jet? If the TT kit doesn't, with what part number should I be searching for the correct pilot jet to add to the TT AIS? :thumbsup:

Stock pilot jet is a 45.

I think the TT AIS kit is just is block off parts. Does not have 48 pilot jet, which is the one you will most likely need.

The 48 pilot jet is #4MX-14948-06

The 50 pilot jet is #4MX-14948-07 (you shouldn't need it)

Get a YZ throttle stop while you are at it #5JG-14591-00-00
