CR500 motor in yz426

I don't know. I think you'd be better off just leaving it in the CR500 frame. It won't give you too large an advantage putting it in the 426 frame. Unless you're just doing it to do it. In which case I say right on!!

That and my motor is screwed. It will either be a 500 or stage 4 through eric gorr!

Two of my riding buddies ride AF500's (CR500 motor in CR250 frame) and I've ridden one of them. Honestly I prefer my 426. It's a big 2-stroke, but it's still a 2-stroke and the 426 has more pull down low than the CR500 motor does.

Anything can be done at all, people just use cr frames because not too much work, especially on the 1st gen frames. The 500 engine bolts straight in, just have to move the front engine mounts and cut the front frame x brace.

Much less work than going to a Yamaha frame. A fair bit of work still needs to be done mind you!

Have you thought of using a WR500 engine? The engine mounting points might be the same?

You can buy a decent used CR500 for about $2000 and it will work better in it's own frame then it will in a 426 frame, IMO.

But if you are looking for the challange of the unknown, and have a bunch of time on your hands, it could be done with alot of fabricating.

The actual value of the final product would be less then the sum of it's parts.

I saw a CR 500 engine in a YZ 426 frame. It was on ebay a few months back. The space above the head looked very odd. Almost as if the engine was way undersized.

I know we cannot always choose stuff based on looks, but this set-up looked too odd to ever own.

I've got a pic of a CR500 motor in a YZ450 frame thats close enough. Anything is possible it depends on your fabrication skills. I have put a CR500 motor in a alloy frame CR250 make a huge difference in handling.

Part out your 426 and buy a new YZ450. You will then have your legend...How much you want for the wheels?
