650L tire help

i'll make this quick cause i dont wanna beat a dead horse (even though its fun!)

In your opinion, what is the best dirt (NON DOT) for the 650 L. riding conditions are sand washes, hill climbs, and fast, straight desert...WFO!

Unsprung weight is a concern...I dont want a heavy tire, but i dont want flats either.

I've racked my brain trying to decide...!!! Thanks for your help!!

Maxxis, they make a desert tire now I run there SI and IT on the road and woods both here in IN and they last forever.

DUNLOP D739 Desert

Any one try one of those Conti TKC 80 yet. Im just about outa rear tire so I have to order somethin soon. More street than dirt. 60/40!

roadcam,

i like the D739 DESERT, but the largest size they make is 120/100...

for some reason i'm thinking a 130 or 140 would be better...dont know why i think that...bigger better??? i dunno.

Do you think the 120 would make the bike turn better..lighter?

your thoughts.

I thought a Metric 120/100 was an Alpha 140/80 equivalent?

FRONT MOTORCYCLE TIRES

Metric Alpha Inch

60/100 90/80 2.50/2.75

70/100 90/90 2.75/3.00

80/100 100/80 3.00/3.25

REAR MOTORCYCLE TIRES

Metric Alpha Inch

80/100 80/90 2.50/3.60

90/100 110/90 3.60/4.10

100/100 120/80 4.00/4.10

110/100 130/80 4.00/4.50

120/100 140/80 5.00/5.10

I can run a rear IRC VE-33 for about 4000 miles.

I can't get any of the expensive Dunlops to last over 200.

I've heard good things about the maxxis tires, but haven't tried them myself.

Dunlop D-606 130/90-18 at 11-12 psi for the Dez. The sidewalls are so stiff you'd never know if you had a flat. And it still behaves well on pavement. I've got over 2K on my 120/90. Next time it's the 130/90.

I run the DUNLOP 606, also, but he said he wanted a "NON-D.O.T." tire ... and right now, I have a flat on the rear, and trust me ... I knew it immediately .. the 606 IS a very stiff-sidewall tire, however, thats why I havent fixed it yet, theyre a bear to get on and off .. great tire, though ..
