Breaking in a new '06 YZ450F

One more newbie-to-thumpers question I forgot to ask in my previous post...

What are recommendations for breaking in a new four-stroke motor? Anything I should keep in mind (beyond the obvious oil changes, bolt tightening and fluid checks)?

What about checking/adjusting the valves?

Thanks.

Hey I got an answer you can read only Im sure everyone has their own method but Break it in by not lugging it or pinning it wide open. I mean I run it it up all the way maybe just a few times during the first tank maybe just 4 times for a split second then get back to riding it pretty much through the rpms avoidng the lug and the pinned throttle ya know staying easy on it but not super easy. Let it cool often also. Plus you get to brag on it while it cools. At least 1 tank of gas. Of course 2 tanks want hurt but its hard to resist. The good thing is you can ride this bike with out killing it and have alot of fun doing it. After that maybe 2 tanks for me then shes all yours. As far as the valves check them around 10 hrs and adjust if needed (hopefully not)when new and then back to regular maintainence. I just burned my second tank this weekend and I gotta check mine soon too. I gotta say its the most phenominal machine I've ever experienced. Sorry couldn't help it.

Good luck w/it.

Have a look at the links below, informative and basically endorsing what advice you have been given. The fundamentals for breakin: Dont use synthetics, dont overload (lug) the engine, dont overheat-let cool between rides, Check and change oil frequently at first (every hr/100k), allow at least 500(min)-1500k before using synthetic oil and then return to normal servicing. Check and record valve clearance at around 500k[as a precaution- should be sweet].
