Just got my 04 450!! Help on mods?

I just traded my 2002 250f for a 2004 450f. I think I got a pretty good deal, but what do you think would have been a good trade price :thumbsup: ? I'm pretty stoked about it, but I need a little help with any mods that you all would recommend. I will be riding the bike primarily on trails with a little light (non racing!!) track time, and some screwing around here with the kids. Any guidance would be great. Thanks.

it depends if you are a serious racer or not, if you just put around and do it for fun i would suggest some better quality in the radiator department, the i would probably fit some handguards for when you fall off in the trails, a motorminder which will help with maintenance and other such things and the go riding and have a good time.

Instead of spending your money on mods that you dont need. Spend a little dough on a Motorcross class. You'll be trading up those woods for some doubles in no time.

I have a 2004 Yz 450f also.

1) I recommend using a Dunlop 756 front tire and a Maxxis IT on the rear.

2) Zip-Ty fuel screw (this makes it easy to change the fuel/air mixture when the humidity, altitude and/or temperature changes) makes a big difference if the bike starts to feel "piggy"

3) Give the heave-ho to the stock chain. It's a piece of junk that stretches big time, use a Regina ORN.

4) Scott's stainless oil filter (filter's better than paper one's, last a lifetime)

5) Pro-Taper handlebars...stock is just so-so, and will fold with a slight impact

6) ASV levers....they fold over on impact, saving you from buying new stock levers

7) J/D jetting kit.....I haven't installed mine yet, but everyone seems to really like them

8) Spider grips.....less arm-pump and pretty good durability

9) Billet aluminum throttle tube.....dump the bike over, and you'll see why aluminum is better than the OEM plastic.

Add to the list the most important piece of the puzzle, re-spring the suspension for your weight and if your going to race motocross re-valve it.

I'll second the zipty fuel screw...

Then the other two things I did to my bike that I really appreciate are the trailtech kickstand and the 13 tooth front sprocket.

If you're woods riding you need to consider the PMB endcap with the spark arrestor and quiet tip too...

Thanks for all the great info. I already am working on suspension springs, and the fuel screw was on my list, too. The guy I got the bike from is sending me new tires and bars, so we'll see what he sends before I go ordering those. Any other tires worth a crap for woods riding? Also, am I to understand that the stock pipe is not 96db compliant? No spark arrestor either? Thanks again.

what is this zip ty the fuel screw? got pictures?? and why did you do this for??
