has anyone ever seen the gear break on the water pump? its an 05 250.

the bike died and lost fire so westarted tearing it apart and niticed a tooth to a gear cought between the flywheel and the stator. we had ended up tearing the clutch side of the motor apart and discovering that 3 teeth of the water pump gear were missing. we have split the cases since then and havent relly found out why the gear broke. everything else seems to be ok.

any advice??

Take a look around and make sure nothing else is broken. It's odd that a water pump gear would break on its own (is it metal or plastic?), but perhaps something else broke and the pieces fond their way to the water pump gear? Is the pump seized, or does it still spin freely?

the gear is steel and everything else sems fine. the pump spins freely and everything else is intact. i have no idea why it would have just broke.

The most common reason these fail is that a chunk of some other part passes between the crank and water pump gears. Look around and be sure you find everything.

thats kinda what i was thinking, but we cant seem to find anythin except the 3 gears that were broken. this bike did break some clutch disks once though. we split the cases and cleaned it all out but maybe we missed something.
