torque specs

anybody out here know what the factory head torque specs are for an 04 yz450, need them quick, thanks for your help

not as cut and dry as that,

You need to put gease on the bolt threads then tighten bolts cross patern in 2 or 3 steps to 30Nm / 22ft-lb. Remove bolts.

Apply grease to threads again, this time tighten to 20Nm / 14ft-lb.

Tighten bolts 1/4 turn cross patern, then another 1/4 turn.

Works out to be 35 ft/lbs

Who taught you that? Once you squish the gasket and then remove the bolts, you might as well throw that gasket away and start from scratch. Factory procedure is to cross-tighten all bolts to spec, mark them with a line, then tighten 180 degrees from that mark in two 1/4 turn increments. Your procedure will likely result in a blown head gasket or a base gasket that weeps.

I did, and I stand corrected. Apparently, this is how Yamaha wants it done. Perhaps to get proper gasket squish, but leave enough tolerance for heat expansion of the mating parts. It's certainly not conventional. Unfortunately, in the manual it is not listed in the actual assembly procedure. Instead, there is an asterisk next to the part in the exploded view with a note at the bottom of the page. As such, it can easily be missed. :applause: Enjoy it, but I still haven't forgotten the 9/11 remark yet.
