yz400f vs yz250f

which would you choose and why? i plan on using it to putt around behind my kids as well as race around with my buddies now and then...nathan

(same post in 250 forum) like to get both sides of the story...

Id get the 250f over the 400. The 400 is a good bike but for putzing behind the kids that bike is gonna generate a lot of heat. That 250f is more than enough bike to do anything most of are capable of. I like my 400 but I have rode a 250F on the track and loved it. I can clear everything I normaly can but the lighter weight dont wear me out nearly as bad.

thanks i think ill try to get the 250F...if not there's always the 400 or 426 that are available....

It is easy to get more power out of the 250F. Hi-comp piston, cams, pipe, then bore and stroke if you find you are down in power.

cool... :applause:

If you were to get a big bore, I would get at least an '02 426 or newer, because that is when they started to get lighter. A 400 will be heavy, get the 250F, and waste your buddies on the track.

250f much happier with the slow stuff, and when they are tapped with a capable rider they can be tricky to catch. I have '04 450 and have to work to keep up with my more experienced bud in the tight stuff as there is only so fast you can get round a corner, but uphill or or straight 450 all the way!!!

Definetly lots of heat if you are riding slow on 450.
