First day out on a 650r

I have been waiting to get to ride my (new to me) xr650r for almost a month. I finnaly took it out and crashed it within 15 min. The rest of the day went better. It is was nice to get the pristine plastic all crunked up. I can now ride without any worries. I also crunked up my 200$ Nolan street helmet. I want to thankyou guys for letting me lurk for so long. I have no regrets about buying this bike. I am a complete off-road begginer and having the time of my life. I am gonna take it to a mx track tomorrow after I buy some gear. The bike is already uncorked. Thanks Rob.

I just put a slipper clutch in my pig. First hard ride was Sunday. Amazing product, it would have to make almost anyone faster overall. You should try one.

Welcome to TT and enjoy your BRP. You're going to have your hands full with the pig on an MX track but more power to ya if you're gonna do it.

Thanks AzMtnThumper, we are going to the mx track to learn how to hit the small jumps. I am also going to work on my turns and thottle control. Yesterday I went airborn over a tank berm . I did not know how to land. I do not want to crash evertime I ride, so I am going to a controled enviorment to learn.

My 1st ride on my BRP was on Saturday. I tore up about 50 miles of rocky dusty Arizona trails, and love this bike! It rips. As the dealer didn't have my uncorked baffle in, I just rode it without any baffle. It was a little loud, but not too annoying. The faster I went, the smoother the ride was. I will need to dial in the suspension a little, but it felt good overall. I just have to get used to the extra weight in the really tight corners......I can't throw it around as well as other lighter bikes. :cry: I did hit a few jumps, one was a smaller 30 foot double, and it did just fine. I will be putting the paddle tire on and heading to the sand dunes in Glamis this weekend, I can't wait to throw sand with the BRP! :applause::bonk:

if you're are hitting alot of 30 footers .you might want to look into the right side footpeg upgrade before too long !!!!!!good luck

wait till you get the suspension done.totally different feeling .then bars then tires then then then then .goes on on and on have fun and stay safe .

I won't be hitting too many big jumps on this, I just wanted to see how she felt in the air. :applause:

I bought this bike mainly to start racing desert races on, with Whiplash Racing. I've done the motocross thing, Hare & Hound singletrack races, and circle track racing, but never desert racing. Here's what I've done to the BRP thus far:

-Uncorked mods

-Clarke 4.3G natural gas tank

-Tag bar adapters

-ProTaper bars, Wingham bend(some new grips later today :bonk: )

-Dunlop 739 rear tire

-Dulop 739 front will be replaced with a Maxxis IT

-John @Palo Verde Suspension will be revalving the suspension next week

-Ordered tall seat foam and new seat cover

-MSR rear aluminum disc guard

-Ordered Barkbusters

It's a good start. It feels good so far, and will only get better.

Sweet setup, X Thread. I need to look into buying a big rugged outdoorsey skid plate next. The stock skid plate works pretty well for plastic. I will be switching to the Maxxis Desert IT as well, as soon as I wear down the Dunlop. :bonk: I ran Maxxis tires on my XR250R, and loved them. They wore well, and got great traction.

What kind of mileage do you get out of your IMS tank? I put almost 50 miles on my bike last Saturday, and I still had more than a half tank left. :applause:

Oh yeah, I am running a UNI air filter, and am looking to buy the kit from XR's Only to put vent screens in the side panel covering the air filter. "Mr. Scotty....I need MORE POWER!"

thanks hoverboy for the compliment .as for the mileage i went 108 before going to reserve and still had some to go but i didn't .as for the skidplate the xr,s only fits real good (the bolt on one ) but theres alot of motor noise after that .sounds like something going on but nothing really .i took mine off and sounds great .just need to get used to it .i like the protection way better than the plastic one .i,m not to delicate in the rocks .as for the maxxis i love em and they last along time .the street eats them up but who care,s

a couple mods all the BRP sites say , crankcase vent, steering head grease. foot peg bolt, watch the kick start lever , lock tight it.

for that noisy skid plate maybe try some undercoat in a can? might deaden the noise
