Clutch basket wear ?

2 posts in this topic

I went to put a new clutch in my 94" 600 R and find that the plates are in good shape but I found notches where the plates ride on the inner and outer clutch hubs. ( or basket) . My manual says you can file them if it is not too extreeme.???

Does anyone have any Expeience with this? Will this really work long term?

Seems to be a temporary fix to a larger problem to me but I filed them any way.I cant be the only one who has had to deal with this.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

It happens no big deal, just try to file them as even as you can.

The biggest thing you will notice is an easier clutch pull, when the basket is grooved it makes plates harder to move.

you can do it once or twice but by then you should get a new basket, clutch baskets wear out, when real bad they will start to chatter under load, aslo replace the bearing that the basket rides on
