KDX 200 or KLX 300?

I'm gonna get a new bike after I sell my ttr 225, I wanted the 06 kx250f but I'm having second thoughts about buying a $6000 bike. I want one thats quick and fast but handles good. Is the kdx 200 a faster bike than the klx 300? Or are they about the same? I'm having a hard time making up my mind for my next bike. :applause:

Get the KDX200..... :applause: You'll be happier all around....if your lucky and find a new/left over 05 KDX200 they are going pretty cheap, they have one at our dealer for $3500.... and with the money you saved get it piped and have the suspension set up for your weight and riding style.

Anyways..the KDX 220 is the bike.

I, personally, like the 200 for it's rev; but, the 220 is the scoot.

How much would a good intake/exhaust system and rejeting improve the power? Would it be close to a 220's power?

get the KDX 200, put a torque pipe on it... fmf gnarly and powercore2 should do. that's about a 300-400 dollar upgrade. re-jetting is free... just time, no jet kit needed just follow the instructions that come w/the pipe. A 200 power is real close to a 220, just different. The 220 has more torque, the 200 more topend. Both are pretty much bullet proof and VERY reliable and great trail bikes. The KLX 300 is underpowered from what I've read.

stock-for-stock, they aren't that much different, except the KLX has more off-idle torque. The KDXs take to mods better, so modded, the DX is the faster bike.

KLX300 is a pig. Hard starting also. Its fine for a 300, but if your going 4 stroke, get the KLX400 (green DRZ) or even a better choice than the KDX200 is the KDX220. Much better trail bike. I bought a KDX220 brand new in 01, was one of the finest trail bikes I've ever owned. Its acutally tuned for low end trail riding while the 200 has a little more snap. The 220 uses a 33mm carb and an 0ring chain, the 200 uses a 35mm and a non oring chain, and is a little higher strung. If you like the extra snap from a track bike, the 200 would do it, but if you trail ride, get the 220. Its only $300 more, with a little dickering, you could close the $300 gap I bet.

I've been thinking about a KDX in the Spring. With the stiffer fork spring will they handle light MX work? I know they kick it on the trails as I have raced against them in the past on my RMX.

I'd get the 220 as well. The KLX300 is a good bike but the 220 will smoke it just about everywhere and it's much cheaper to maintain and mod.

I'd also look for a KTM 200 EXC as well. You won't have to mod that much at all to be really happy and I've seen them as low as $4500 new.

Never rode the KLX, but the KDX200 is one fun, durable bike that you would most likely love. It's priced right. Ditch the stock pipe for a fmf or pro circuit and you'll have a very snappy scoot.

For the amount of bike you get for the money, the KDX200 is THE best bike out there. It is one of the best all around dirt bikes ever made no matter what the price range. I had one for years and rode the crap out of it. Very trouble free and I want another one. Anyway, that's how I feel.

Definitely get the KDX. I was seriously considering selling my 250X and buying a KDX to avoid the high maintainence costs of the Honda. That is, until I realized that I'd be losing out on more money if I sold my Honda than if I kept it. You can't beat the price, $4000 new is nothing in today's motorcycle world. The design is fairly old, but it's been around so long because it's reliable and it works! My Honda may have more power and much better suspension, but I would still love to go for a ride on a KDX. :applause:

I found a dyno chart for a modded kdx 200, its running close to 35hp, does anyone have an idea what the stock hp is?

Stock KDX200 hp at the shaft is about 36 (about 29 at the rear wheel ). Not too shabby at all, and not too far off (but a little less than) the current crop of 250f's which are about 40ish at the shaft and 30-32ish at the rear wheel.

I would suspect the modded figure that you have for the KDX was taken at the rear wheel.

They say that the suspension is off balance, like the rear is set for riders that are more than 170lbs and the front shocks are for riders around 130lbs, although I weigh close to 140lbs, I'm not sure what to expect untill I buy that bike and ride it. I'll just play around with the settings untill it suits me.

Also, keep in mind that these hp figures are about double what your current steed, the ttr225, has.

I know, its got around 15hp :applause:
