Drilling the frame?

3 posts in this topic

I'm custom making my 400 to have a 450 tank fit it and i'm wondering if its safe to drill a quarter inch hole through the frame. It's just above the cylinder head where i'd be drilling, and then i'd just through bolt it. It'd be about 3 inches to drill through, but is this OK to do? Is there oil running through the frame?

thanks

There is oil in the frame, so it's best to make a solid rod in which both ends are tapped. This way you can maintain the oil tank and use the original bolts with the 450 tank. I have photos to show how this is done if you want the details.

Drilled it anyway and didn't have any problems. Guess I got lucky, now all I need are the plastics and graphics and I can pass my bike off as a 450!
