450 exhaust cam in 426?

There is a member on here, cw, who was taking the 250F auto decomp stuff and installing it on the 426 stock cam, because the 426 and the 250F use the same size gear on the cam. If you do a search for cw I'm sure you'll find something.

Someone has entirely too much time on their hands!!!

I agree....

You're one to talk Satch... this coming from the guy who spent more hours tinkering on his 426 than anyone I know, doing stuff like a custom exhaust heat shield made out of muffler tubing and the 450 plastic swap, then sold the dang thing to get a PINGER!!! :banghead:

BTW - pretty sure I saw the ole #9 last weekend whilst out riding - still seemed to be running fine :banghead:

i too want to do this mod on my 02yz426, ive read and read about it but i am confused.. Whats the difference between the exhaust cam, auto decomp, and the hotcam? :banghead:

Are they all the same?

Yes, kind of. The exhaust cam controls the exhaust valves. The autodecomp is an assembly in the 03 YZ 450F exhaust cam that automatically opens an exhaust valve so that there is no need for a decompression lever to turn the motor past TDC, unlike the 98-02 YZ 400/426. The Hotcam is an aftermarket auto decomp cam that costs more than the OEM YZ one.

In short, buy an 03 YZ 450F exhaust cam and a Vibeguy decompression shaft plug and you'll be much happier.

The '03 cam in my '02 WR made all the difference in the world.... best mod I have done yet, that and the jamesnow made my low end scream...
