06 450 frame, battle tested?

I am assuming that the new aluminum frame has been battle tested, right? The main backbone just looks a little thin compared to the crf. Also what is the deal on the new oil tank within the engine? Does anyone know how much oil it actually holds?

you can bet the frame is battle tested. Keep in mind the YZ250 2-smoke frame is A LOT thinner than the CR250R frame....and it works flawlessly.

Well Yamaha has been playing with aluminum frames since the 80s.

So quick answer is yes.

Hard to tell about the oil question, since the bike is not out yet. However the engine is still close in design to the 03-05 so I would imagine that the oil capacity is the same as well- it is just not carried in the frame- the new design helps lower the center of gravity and is less likely to leak due to frame cracks wich are very rare but has happened. It is a good design and I can't wait to see an 06 in person. I just might have to get one. :banghead:

Adding additional oil capacity through the addition of an auxiliary tank would also be a fairly simple matter (if you can tap into the return circuit without too much trouble), if you though it was necessary. Hopefully, it will be at least one quart.

The engine really is different from the 03-05s. Yes it still has the 5 valves, but the angle of the engine is different. It is an ALL new motor basically. The bottom front of the motor has a cavity to store the oil. 1qt is what it takes now. There are a lot of slight and small differences.
