426 mods

i have a 426 in a qaud and am wondering do big bore kits really help these much or should i look into a stroker and has anyone got one ported and how was the increase.

big bore kits give you plenty of bang off the bottom which is good for the bigger guys 240lbs plus. also it is good for you hill climbers and slow trail riders, but you sacrifice top end and you are going to feel like you need another gear. i have a built 01 and did everything short of going to the big bore. i think it is the smartest decision that i have made with this bike. the bike will pull over 100mph but whos counting. cams and pipe are the common upgrades aside from power now and grey wire. also look at your sprocket set up.

Big-bore kits are good because they dont decrease the reliability of the bike at all because all your doing is upping the displacement, and not messing with the geometry of any of the engine internals. Stroker kits are a bit different though, they give tons of power, but the extra stress on the crank wears out your bike over time. Getting a ported head is a good mod for more top-end power. No change in relaibility.

PM YZDAD1, he can build you a YZ 459 that is a bored/stroked 426.
