Body armor

8 posts in this topic

I`m looking forward to get a body armor. Right now I`m down to 3:

sixsixone: my buddy loves his

EVS : I`ve had some EVS products in the past and they work fine for me

TLD Speed Jacket : It seems less bulky, more comofortable

Any of you guys has tried one of those? What do you think of them?

I race with the EVS , and a TLD chest protector.

I high sided at 90mph and the BRP landed on top of--we slid for a long ways...i came to with the bike on top...

A few broken bones, and big puncture wound where the footpeg went into my leg.

Without the EVS's spinal cord protection (its got the best) i might have ended up a cripple. The bike landed on my back at very high speed!

My partner races with the 661--he just got it--and on his first ride with it crashed VERY hard with it--like over 70mph...and he got messed up but didnt break anything...he is REALLY glad he was wearing it.

For me the value of the body suits are the spinal protection and the stay in place elbow protection. The chest cavity protection is not that great--i've broken ribs twice with the EVS.

I think the best set up is:

Asterix knee braces

EVS body suite

Chest protector/roost guard

Probably a neck brace is also a good thing--i will probably get one soon.

With all that on you are as protected as you can get.

After 2-3 rides you dont notice it at all.

I currently ride with the 661 Pressure Suit. Couldn't like it more to tell you the truth. I took a pretty rough spill last saturday while wearing it and didn't take even a scratch because of how I landed on the body armor.

I'm still always looking for better though :D

There are also air-bag chest protectors, vests and jackets that inflate in ~30 milliseconds, but their prices are still more than most people care to spend. I used to have more links for various companies doing this including one that made an off road chest protector , but I lost them, although here's a few that I just found from googling...

Hi, do you get 'Knocks' armour over there? I use their body suit in the UK and have found it great - much easier to put on and get off than all the others i tried.

Has anybody used any of these? From my experience it's the first ~30 milliseconds that hurts the most. :D

And you would know!!! ;):D . Kwedean and I were riding at Kentuck in AL late Sat. and he decided to try and catch me and the next thing he know's he and the 650 parted ways in a big way :D:D and when I didn't hear the Pig, I turned around and found him huffin' air and trying to get his s**t together :D:cool::eek::D:D:D , we've all been there before. :D We both just wish I could have caught the wreck on my new helmet cam, so we could both figure out what the hell happened. Sometimes it seems like one second your cruising along and the next you're sliding headfirst across the ground. :p

We think he'll live. :D It's amazing how much a simple chest protectors' shoulder pads can help in a wreck, but I'm sure he would have felt better today if he was wearing a body suit. It amazes me that 90% of the ATV riders are not wearing helmets. And half of them are flying through the woods with trees and rocks everywhere :eek:

At least he didn't destroy our Vegas to Reno race bike, that's what's important here :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
