Things to look for -- 400f top end

1 post in this topic

The cam bearings are fine.

I'm replacing the cam chain and adding an auto-d cam.

The counterbalancer key is worn and must be replaced.

I'm pulling the head and the cylinder tonite.

I'll most likely add a wiesco piston and rings if it needs it.

What should I look for here. Can i just put a new piston in an old cylinder.

Should I rub the cylinder with scothbrite, what about the ridge?

How easy is it to remove the piston pin?

I've read that 400 rods are weak in the small end. True?

What about ring end gap?

Pls guide me. I want to get another 5 yrs out of this motor!
