Power Now, is this legit?

i have an 01 426, been reading about the power now and power now plus, has anyone used this? does it result in increased performance? what about changing my reeds? i have big gun exhaust dropped cogs to a 13/51 setup, run 93 octane, bike is fast but im wanting cr500 snap out of a 4 stroke is that possible? thanks

A Power Now will give you a little better response from low - mid' range. It helps reduce 'lugging' in tight corners I found. It doesn't give super power gains, if you want CR500 power, you'll need a CR500. BTW, can you snap a pic' of the reeds in your 426? :D:D

I wasn't terribly impressed with the power now. I also have an '01 YZ426 and didn't really see much difference, at least not $100 worth difference. It gave marginal at best (IMO) gains off the bottom. As far as getting CR500 snap out of a thumper, I'm afraid you'll be dissapointed. These bikes are fast, but they don't hit like a 500 smoker no matter what mods you do to them.

Anyway...if you want to experiment with the PowerNow gadget....make your own and save $100

i think maybe if you get a ktm 525 or some huge 4 stroke you may get close to a 500 smoker but i think you will still be off the mark. i think you would need a 800 to a 900 4 stroke motor (going by current standards of doubling a 2smker motor size for a 4 stroke of equal power). also if you couldnt tell 4 strokes do not have reeds. they have valves in the head. and even if you changed these out to larger ones you would still need a huge massive amount of motor work to a 4 stroke to come close to a 500. even then why would you need that kinda power. most of us arnet even good enough to handle these bikes little alone one of these with 500 2 smoke power hehe.

Satch, I thought those old pic's were lost during the TT upgrade? Jeez, that seems like a long time ago..... I think the PN is a worthwhile mod', but I definitely wouldn't pay $100 for one. 'cfauver', with an hour or so of spare time, you can easily make one yourself. :D

I have a Power Pack from SLP and it seemed to help on the throttle response on the bottom they go for around $40. Seems to help out but not worth spending over $100 on.

it does seem like ages ago! I kept all that stuff on my computer when I had my 426. I made my own as well "back in the day" LOL....it seemed to make the throttle response a little "crisper" off the bottom. But others felt no difference.

The important thing to understand about these devices is that they are only effective at part throttle. The idea is to reduce the turbulence in front of the slide at from off-idle to half-throttle by dividing the airstream into an upper and lower section (more in the later versions). In our 250F, it gave us noticeably sharper part throttle performance. But the 426's and 450's I've ridden are anything but foggy at low speeds/throttle openings, so I'm not convinced that they would help much. Sounds like Chris and Satch have actually used one, so on that last point, they may be the better to listen to.

PowerNow on my 470 helped alot in starting the engine and I trail ride in real tight stuff and get alot less flame out's :D
