Looking at buying 450yzf

What do you guys think of the 05 yzf450... Should I wait for 06? and the aluminum frame?

if i'd was you i would wait for the '06 !!!!!

Thanks... I was thinking the same but have a good orice offer on the 05. What bike do you have?

I have the 04 model and love it. Remember one thing, the 05 (I don't know about the 06 model) doesn't have the same amount of "hit" that the 03 and 04 models do. What I mean is that the powerband doesn't snap as hard as the 04 or especially as hard as the 03. A number of people complained to Yamaha about the arm-yanking powerband of the 03 models, and so Yamaha responded by adding a heavier flywheel in 04. A number of people feel that in 05, Yamaha went even furthur in decreasing the "hit" and that they went overboard and some have complained that the 05 model feels wimpy compared to the 03 and 04. This is all subjective, but that appears to be the overall consensus. I am extremely happy with my 04; the heavier flywheel that was added compared to the 03 model, only slightly lessened the "hit", and the 04 got better forks (I think 2mm larger) Just thought I'd give my 2 cents worth.....good luck

The '05 is a great bike, but wait for the '06. Its all-new.

Wait for the -06. If for no other reason than to bring down the price of the -05 even more.

yz 450's used the same flywheel 03-05,they did not change the weight of the fw for 04. i just went down this road when i put a +6 on my 05 and it fit 03-05. so that raised the ?? of well is it +6 from 03 or 04? turns out they were all the same :D for 05 they lowered compression and changed the intake. still has plenty of useable power.

I stand corrected.....I had always been told that flywheel weight was added in 04, and also the fork diameter increased 2mm for the 04 model. So are you saying that the 03 and 04 are of the same output regarding the "hit" ?? I knew the 05 models were toned down, but I just assumed the 04 was given heavier flywheel weight compared to the 03.

no they did something to the 04 to reduce the hit i just know it wasn't the flywheel,i was under the same impression about the fw as alot of people are/were,

wait.the 06 will be awesome

Hey there NC man. I'm not sure I totally agree there, but will talk to my yamaha tech buddy. :D

well its been verified with trail tech and steahly, and i beleive grayracer got the same answer from dubach(i'd say they know a little sumthin' collectively) same yamaha part # 03,04,and 05,i'm confident :D

Since Dubach has been getting them back as cores from all three years now, I too am confident that he knows what he's talking about.
