Whats wrong with my tranny ?

6 posts in this topic

I have an 03 yz450 and the transmission has been acting goofy lately. When im riding sometimes it is hard to shift into second, and when the bike is running, finding neutral is next to impossible. When the bike is not running it shifts just fine into neutral, and between each gear.

My buddy says it might be the shift forks, and searches on TT say maybe the shift shaft ??

Any of you gurus out there have any ideas before I tear into it?

Thanks

Don't run anything lighter than that. Maybe try a switch to a different oil, but it sounds like an adjustment issue or a plate problem if that doesn't do it.

I would just pull the clutch cover and take a look. Could be lot's of things, but sounds like it may be worn clutch basket to me. Just my 2c. No way to really tell without digging in.
