Cheat valve clearance- loose or tight?

When selecting shims for valve adjustment do you “cheat” loose or tight? I am thinking the valve/seat wear along with stem stretch will tighten the clearance faster then cam/bucket wear will loosen it. I have the luxury of some factory “tweener” shims to choose from and I am thinking going to the upper end of the tolerance to extend periods between adjustments.

When you guys find your valves out of spec are they tight or loose? Thanks
