Very cool, I was thinking of powder coating my rims as well.

What are you thinking your riding time will be 60% dirt 40% street? The Metzlers I have were not good at all on the road. I think they were SIX DAYS tires, And were BIG $$$$$ to boot.

Actually, my riding time will probably be more like 80% street and 20% dirt. I sold my '04 CRF 450R and replaced it with this so I could ride it to work. I know that I could have "plated" the 450, but it was such a pain to start in cold weather (kick starter). I can't imagine kick starting it with my backpack (laptop, lunch, etc.) on...LOL. Push Here to Start...

Click Here for a pic of my CRF

Also, if anyone is interested... I have a personal website with many different facets...one of them is custom Google search pages (intended to be used as browser home page). Here is a link to the one that I use. I'm sure that you Honda finatics will approve. Feel free to use it!

http://www.dukenet.ws/Honda_Google.html

There is a button at the bottom that will set it as your home page (on most browsers)

I recently upgraded from an XR630R to the XR650R and am having a ball with my new big red rock chucker as my mates call it. It was bog stock when I got it without even a scratch!! It had been used for road work only so I had to do some mods to get it up to speed for the bush.

So far I have done;

Renthal fat bars ,risers and hand guards.

Alloy radiator guards

knobbie tyres.

A Whipps alloy bash plate

Pivot Pegz

14/48 gearing.

Removed the subframe and all the heavy tail light assembly

Yoshimura end cap on the exhaust. A full stainless system is on the wish list.

I have gotten a spare set of standard wheels that I am fitting road trail tyres to for those longer rides .

I have just aquired a set of 17” motard wheels for it too but haven’t given them a go yet.

Here she is as she stands at the moment

I have had this bike for a little over a year, and I just love it more and more every day.

I have been trying to quantify it, Its not the fastest, not the lightest.. But why do I feel this way??

Well, I ride 70 miles round trip, 5 days a week (weather permit) on this thing. I see many BMW's and a few KTM adventures durng my commute, and I give the old wave... thinking, HMMM maybe I should go to the BMW/KTM dealership, then it hits me, $15,000-$20,000???.

You know, I have been lucky in this economy, my wife and I have not been effected as far as work etc, so ... could do it???

But then I think, man this thing bahaves really good on the highway, so do I need more??? Could I work on those other bikes??? I have been working on all of my vehicles, all of my life, could I continue??

Then I think, what would I do with one of those bike up in the mountains of Colorado.. HuMMMM ??? well dont think I would, let say, let it all hang out. Weight??? Price???..........

Currently, I ride the hell out of this thing when we hit the trails.. ?????

You know.. I am going to ride this pig till it falls a part.......

Searth,,,,

No, No, No Upgrade??? man those PIGS look cleannn.. NO NEED

I just have a newer PIGI just going through the upgrade phase....(have to post pic so older mod)

FYI, This was just after I instaled the cooler, I shortened the lines after install, so tucked in tight..works GOOOD .

(did not see last post)

The only reason I laced the rims was I hit a chunk of lumber on the highway at 70mph, tweeked the rim bad. Dont know how I did not go slattt...Not my time I guess.

Well any way, the rims were a nice experience I would have never attempted other wise..

What bike are those fork guards for? I want some! Did you have to fabricate them?

They look like they're the ones from the Scott Summers (SRC) fork brace. I think his company is out of business, don't know if it was bought by anyone.

Heres a couple of my pig. Picked it up for $1500.00 NZ, goes real well. I gave it a tidy up, had the rear wheel respoked and treated it to a new no toil air filter. Just waiting on some decent weather so I cn get out and ride it (or it can ride me)haha..

Well cared for 2001 XR650R for sale.  I am the original owner and bought it new in Feb 2002.  Don't know exactly how many miles are as they didn't come with odometers but I would estimate 5-7K.
Lots of upgrades including Clark 4.3g tank, Cycra Handguards, Magura oversize bars, excel rims front and back, skid plate, radiator guards and a scotts damper sub mount (mount only), rear disk guard and oversize springs.  I still have the original parts I took off so going back to stock spring rate/gas tank/skidplate/... wouldn't be a problem.
The bike is 100% ready to ride - chain and sprockets are in good shape, wheel, shock and swingarm bearing are all tight.  Doesn't smoke or leak fluids

Will the front Maier disc/fork guards for an XR600 work on the 2006 XR650L?

Suspension setup for a 240-250 lb rider. Extra tall Guts seat foam and gripper seat cover. Garage kept, tires are in good condition. Honda power up kit adds about 10 more horsepower. The bike is not street legal in California.

      $3000 or best offer

Sorry all.  I'm sure there is plenty of info on the forum regarding this topic already, but I am apparently challenged when it comes to searching.  I do not know much about jetting but have been researching and readying about the "Dave's Mods" and am confident i  can handle that and plan to do it to the bike shortly after i get it (couple weeks away).  The bike is completely stock presently with very low miles (just over 100).  Question is this:  I don't plan any internal engine mods but I do plan to de-smog right away.  When $$ permits I plan to do the following all at once:  Uni filter and remove snorkle; FMF Q4 (possibly with the stock headpipe or power bomb); Dave's mods to carb.  Like i said I do not know much about jetting but I did have installed a dynojet kit in my Brute Force when i put on the new muffler and filer.  I see they have a Stage I and Stage II available that would appear to fit the bill in my case.   Which one should i go with?  I am looking more for proper jetting with the increased air flow and to correct the lien issue than I am for shear power.  Also, would I be better off just ordering the specific jets as i have seen elswhere on the forum from jetsrus or whatever the site is?  I will ride primarily Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan so no crazy elevations to consider.   Thanks in advance for helping out an old guy new to the forum!

      Hello All,
I recently started a project where I purchased a 1987 Honda XL600R basket case.  The engine required too much to repair it, so I purchased a 1987 XR600R solely for the engine.  I have already mounted the XR engine into the XL frame, see the images below.
This is not my first rodeo, plus I have an Electro-mechanical Engineering background.  I am seeking advice from experienced persons that have done this engine swap in the past and what needs to be done that i might have overlooked.
The engine is currently mounted, has spark and clean carbs installed.  Need an o-ring that I ordered to button up the oil lines.  Then I can fill with oil and gas to lit up the XR engine, which is basically stock at this point.
Here's what I got and I think needs to be done:
XR Motor with the XR Carbs Will be using stock XL airbox. Will be using stock XL exhaust system. Swap XR Stator with XL Stator.  Will I need to swap the rotors too? Will need a new rear sprocket and chain.  Any recommendations on the number of teeth I should use on the rear with this motor? Will be needing a set of new tires too.  Any recommendations on tires for street, trail, and dirt riding? Any advice will be helpful and appreciated to help save me some time and this old girl back on the road sooner.
