Gathering the parts to build my XR650R. Scored a super clean low mile plated example. Rode it a few times and realized it was way more bike than I had hoped for and really like it. So decided to give it a nice makeover and some love.

Starting here...

Kellys-XR650R-X2.jpg

Built a Trail Tech X2 light into a small "Rally" fairing. also ordered up a Seat Concepts 1 inch taller couch of a seat. This is my 4th SC seat... I love them.

Also ordered up some nice new Cycra hand guards and CRF vented front fender.

Already added a Trail Tech Voyager GPS and IMS large tank. Did 140 mile mostly off road adventure ride on it last sat and loved it. Also ordered up $150 worth of new cables, air filters, and oil filters for the good people at XRs only. Amazing what those guys have for these older bikes. Great resource.

Looking forward to making it a really nice light weigh adventure bike.

Hi all, I've been a multi XR owner...had 3x 250s and 600 back in the late 80s & early 90s before giving up on dirtbikes...and returned to the fray last year with a mint 250 (posted in the 250/400 forum).

Finding that I like twisting a throttle again and want some grunt I managed to track down a 2000 650R with 9k Km's (5k miles) on it sitting at a dealers at the other end of the state...

I'll give it a check over and few protective parts, some extra fuel capacity and set it up for adventure dual sport type riding to cover back road miles....

Should have it week after easter...

Hey dudes. I was able to build my 99 xr650l with some of the wisdom here on tt. Thanks for a great forum.

Really like the tank! How much does it take and what year is that? Stock XR frame?

Thanks mon. I picked up a 99 for 1800 cleaned rebuilt and replaced berings and wear items about another 500. Bling and mods 1000 and about 2000 on the front with the computer and wheel. Say just at 5k. The tank and frame are both stock white with the stock 99 graphic.

Got some stuff done on the BRP. 1" taller and amazing Seat Concepts seat. My 4th one and these are amazing seats. HID X2 Trail Tech light with added windshield. All new cables and fork boots from the good people over at XR's only. The new fancy Cycra hand guards which I must say are very nice and a CRF front fender (color match is off but acceptable... Honda thing not Cycra). Also got some billet adjustable levers of eBay which for the price thought might be chinese crap, turns out they are VERY nice chinese stuff. Reminds me of the Zeta stuff. Very impressed.

I just picked this up 3 hours ago....

I am a 54 yr old, long time rider, started on a QA 50 in 1971.

I got what I think is a good deal, new clutch, sprockets, chain, tires, no smoke, runs well....

Needs clutch and brake levers, handlebars bent, headlight missing, leaking gas.....

But starts on 2nd kick, runs good....

$800.

Damn this thing is fast and powerful and big.

I owned an XL200 but this is much bigger....

I think I have bitten off more than my old ass needs to handle....  but it oughta be a blast.

She seems like a pure beast.

Second pic, I cleaned her up a bit....

Here's my pig. She's a 2012. Bought her last year with 400 miles for 4500. Put the windshield on, full exhaust, uni filter, Daves mods and jetted carb, removed smog and airbox snorkel.

Well cared for 2001 XR650R for sale.  I am the original owner and bought it new in Feb 2002.  Don't know exactly how many miles are as they didn't come with odometers but I would estimate 5-7K.
Lots of upgrades including Clark 4.3g tank, Cycra Handguards, Magura oversize bars, excel rims front and back, skid plate, radiator guards and a scotts damper sub mount (mount only), rear disk guard and oversize springs.  I still have the original parts I took off so going back to stock spring rate/gas tank/skidplate/... wouldn't be a problem.
The bike is 100% ready to ride - chain and sprockets are in good shape, wheel, shock and swingarm bearing are all tight.  Doesn't smoke or leak fluids

Will the front Maier disc/fork guards for an XR600 work on the 2006 XR650L?

Suspension setup for a 240-250 lb rider. Extra tall Guts seat foam and gripper seat cover. Garage kept, tires are in good condition. Honda power up kit adds about 10 more horsepower. The bike is not street legal in California.

      $3000 or best offer

Sorry all.  I'm sure there is plenty of info on the forum regarding this topic already, but I am apparently challenged when it comes to searching.  I do not know much about jetting but have been researching and readying about the "Dave's Mods" and am confident i  can handle that and plan to do it to the bike shortly after i get it (couple weeks away).  The bike is completely stock presently with very low miles (just over 100).  Question is this:  I don't plan any internal engine mods but I do plan to de-smog right away.  When $$ permits I plan to do the following all at once:  Uni filter and remove snorkle; FMF Q4 (possibly with the stock headpipe or power bomb); Dave's mods to carb.  Like i said I do not know much about jetting but I did have installed a dynojet kit in my Brute Force when i put on the new muffler and filer.  I see they have a Stage I and Stage II available that would appear to fit the bill in my case.   Which one should i go with?  I am looking more for proper jetting with the increased air flow and to correct the lien issue than I am for shear power.  Also, would I be better off just ordering the specific jets as i have seen elswhere on the forum from jetsrus or whatever the site is?  I will ride primarily Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan so no crazy elevations to consider.   Thanks in advance for helping out an old guy new to the forum!

      Hello All,
I recently started a project where I purchased a 1987 Honda XL600R basket case.  The engine required too much to repair it, so I purchased a 1987 XR600R solely for the engine.  I have already mounted the XR engine into the XL frame, see the images below.
This is not my first rodeo, plus I have an Electro-mechanical Engineering background.  I am seeking advice from experienced persons that have done this engine swap in the past and what needs to be done that i might have overlooked.
The engine is currently mounted, has spark and clean carbs installed.  Need an o-ring that I ordered to button up the oil lines.  Then I can fill with oil and gas to lit up the XR engine, which is basically stock at this point.
Here's what I got and I think needs to be done:
XR Motor with the XR Carbs Will be using stock XL airbox. Will be using stock XL exhaust system. Swap XR Stator with XL Stator.  Will I need to swap the rotors too? Will need a new rear sprocket and chain.  Any recommendations on the number of teeth I should use on the rear with this motor? Will be needing a set of new tires too.  Any recommendations on tires for street, trail, and dirt riding? Any advice will be helpful and appreciated to help save me some time and this old girl back on the road sooner.
