Well this is my first post here so might as well make it showing my baby.

Its a 94 XR650L with Super trapp exhaust. I just put on a new brake light with integrated blinkers on it today, and some nice red grips.

I want to uncork it, and i need to find some passenger pegs for it. But i love the bike to death, so much power.

as you can see in the picture the blinker was dieing, so had to do some replacing.

sooooo friggan happy at this bike as a choice :smirk:

ridden dirtbikes (125's, 250's, and 450's) for over 10 years now. i'm 26.

finally had a little money, wanted a street legal road bike, so the search began for the perfect bike. Cruisers? too big, heavy, and ostentatious for my tastes. Sport bike? too fast, too uncomfortable, I didn't want to die, and I didn't want to associate myself with that crowd. I tried SO HARD to get my YZ450F street legal as a supermoto, but it was a path that ended in tears, so I gave up that money pit. A quick, nimble, light, and hooligan-able bike was REALLY what I wanted. To be able to jump off the road and go into the woods? AWESOME.

in the ned it was down to a supermoto DRZ400SM and an XR650L. Thank GOD I chose the one I did :smirk: . Thanks in part to this forum, reading late into the night days onend, Finally found one on craiggy-list for a steal (he stole from me... the price was NOT right... but the bike sure was... so whatever)

my Bone Stock Beauty:

(cant wait to get my luggage rack, panniers, and extra large gas tank)

dual sport that is.

DSC_11530001.jpg

It's a 2007 with 1,700 km's on it, and it came with some mods already done, and a few more in transit. new pegs, bars, and a tank will be on this within a week. I just picked up my boots today and they are far too clean, so i plan on sorting that out Saturday.

I took it to some logging roads in Squamish the first weekend and had a blast. It left me wondering why i spent the last 12+ years on sportbikes only.

Figured it was time to share a pic of my 1993 XR650L- Picked it up about a week and a half ago. Pic is from the 100 mile ride home.

Previous owner painted EVERYTHING, frame, engine, exhaust, wheels, yeah, everything! Doesn't look bad but not something I'd have asked for if I were asking. Has been de-smogged, de-snorkeled, not sure about carb mods but I'm not touching the carb considering how well it runs. Exhaust was apparently on an ATV and they cobbled it together to work on the XR, it's a Big Gun and sounds absolutely awesome, I'm thinking I'll clean up the welds and go with it. Nearly new Pirelli Scorpions on it too.

I've added a UNI filter, XRR 15t front sprocket (ordered but not installed), Trail Tech Vapor (ordered but not installed). Changed the oil.

Mostly using it as an around town bike with some trails and dirt roads and some 'around the yard' rides with my girlfriend's son on his bike. I've put around 600 miles on it and love it- considering I traded a 1998 Ninja 500 for it and had less than $500 in the Ninja I won't complain at all over the paint and cosmetics! :ride:

Anyway, here's the pic-

ASF, Also a nice ride.

Is the 89 frame the same as the 08? If so what's the details on your tank. I had an IMS wasn't a fan (no offense Jboat). The reacted badly with decals and the cap seals (three of em) kept rotting with Cali's summer blend. Which incidentally tends to burn in the nether regions as it evaporates.

Thanks, so far most things have been inetrchangeable with the L pretty much except for the tank

I am running the Aloop with custom shrouds (04 CRF trimmed to fit). They make a kit for your 650L.

Here's my old trim with oversized tank, not as nimble as the aloop but it walked the paces just fine. You can get creative with graphics, this kit was meant to be on a different tank but still looked great.

Did you paint the side panels or were you able to buy them like that? If bought, where did you get them? Looks awesome!!

Thanks TJ,

I wish I could have bought black panels and I looked. I couldn't even find after market white ones for BRPs.

They're painted, with Krylon Fusion for plastic (it's flexible). The gloss black works great! Of course regardless of what the can says (yep, it's a ball can job) prep the surfaces with a scuff pad then rinse and dry thoroughly. Apply in wet coats in a dust and bug free environment. Note: Their red sucks. I could never get it to not orange skin and it didn't adhere at all well. That's one of the reasons for the Acerbis headlight and shroud (looks better anyway).

That finish is three years old by the way.

No cracks, no fading, just kept up with Armor All UV. The rest of the plastics (including the now second headlamp kit) are new. Except for the stock rear fender (it's fix'n to go soon).

Well cared for 2001 XR650R for sale.  I am the original owner and bought it new in Feb 2002.  Don't know exactly how many miles are as they didn't come with odometers but I would estimate 5-7K.
Lots of upgrades including Clark 4.3g tank, Cycra Handguards, Magura oversize bars, excel rims front and back, skid plate, radiator guards and a scotts damper sub mount (mount only), rear disk guard and oversize springs.  I still have the original parts I took off so going back to stock spring rate/gas tank/skidplate/... wouldn't be a problem.
The bike is 100% ready to ride - chain and sprockets are in good shape, wheel, shock and swingarm bearing are all tight.  Doesn't smoke or leak fluids

Will the front Maier disc/fork guards for an XR600 work on the 2006 XR650L?

Suspension setup for a 240-250 lb rider. Extra tall Guts seat foam and gripper seat cover. Garage kept, tires are in good condition. Honda power up kit adds about 10 more horsepower. The bike is not street legal in California.

      $3000 or best offer

Sorry all.  I'm sure there is plenty of info on the forum regarding this topic already, but I am apparently challenged when it comes to searching.  I do not know much about jetting but have been researching and readying about the "Dave's Mods" and am confident i  can handle that and plan to do it to the bike shortly after i get it (couple weeks away).  The bike is completely stock presently with very low miles (just over 100).  Question is this:  I don't plan any internal engine mods but I do plan to de-smog right away.  When $$ permits I plan to do the following all at once:  Uni filter and remove snorkle; FMF Q4 (possibly with the stock headpipe or power bomb); Dave's mods to carb.  Like i said I do not know much about jetting but I did have installed a dynojet kit in my Brute Force when i put on the new muffler and filer.  I see they have a Stage I and Stage II available that would appear to fit the bill in my case.   Which one should i go with?  I am looking more for proper jetting with the increased air flow and to correct the lien issue than I am for shear power.  Also, would I be better off just ordering the specific jets as i have seen elswhere on the forum from jetsrus or whatever the site is?  I will ride primarily Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan so no crazy elevations to consider.   Thanks in advance for helping out an old guy new to the forum!

      Hello All,
I recently started a project where I purchased a 1987 Honda XL600R basket case.  The engine required too much to repair it, so I purchased a 1987 XR600R solely for the engine.  I have already mounted the XR engine into the XL frame, see the images below.
This is not my first rodeo, plus I have an Electro-mechanical Engineering background.  I am seeking advice from experienced persons that have done this engine swap in the past and what needs to be done that i might have overlooked.
The engine is currently mounted, has spark and clean carbs installed.  Need an o-ring that I ordered to button up the oil lines.  Then I can fill with oil and gas to lit up the XR engine, which is basically stock at this point.
Here's what I got and I think needs to be done:
XR Motor with the XR Carbs Will be using stock XL airbox. Will be using stock XL exhaust system. Swap XR Stator with XL Stator.  Will I need to swap the rotors too? Will need a new rear sprocket and chain.  Any recommendations on the number of teeth I should use on the rear with this motor? Will be needing a set of new tires too.  Any recommendations on tires for street, trail, and dirt riding? Any advice will be helpful and appreciated to help save me some time and this old girl back on the road sooner.
