Very cool, I was thinking of powder coating my rims as well.

What are you thinking your riding time will be 60% dirt 40% street? The Metzlers I have were not good at all on the road. I think they were SIX DAYS tires, And were BIG $$$$$ to boot.

Actually, my riding time will probably be more like 80% street and 20% dirt. I sold my '04 CRF 450R and replaced it with this so I could ride it to work. I know that I could have "plated" the 450, but it was such a pain to start in cold weather (kick starter). I can't imagine kick starting it with my backpack (laptop, lunch, etc.) on...LOL. I recently upgraded from an XR630R to the XR650R and am having a ball with my new big red rock chucker as my mates call it. It was bog stock when I got it without even a scratch!! It had been used for road work only so I had to do some mods to get it up to speed for the bush.

So far I have done;

Renthal fat bars ,risers and hand guards.

Alloy radiator guards

knobbie tyres.

A Whipps alloy bash plate

Pivot Pegz

14/48 gearing.

Removed the subframe and all the heavy tail light assembly

Yoshimura end cap on the exhaust. A full stainless system is on the wish list.

I have gotten a spare set of standard wheels that I am fitting road trail tyres to for those longer rides .

I have just aquired a set of 17” motard wheels for it too but haven’t given them a go yet.

I have had this bike for a little over a year, and I just love it more and more every day.

I have been trying to quantify it, Its not the fastest, not the lightest.. But why do I feel this way??

Well, I ride 70 miles round trip, 5 days a week (weather permit) on this thing. I see many BMW's and a few KTM adventures durng my commute, and I give the old wave... thinking, HMMM maybe I should go to the BMW/KTM dealership, then it hits me, $15,000-$20,000???.

You know, I have been lucky in this economy, my wife and I have not been effected as far as work etc, so ... could do it???

But then I think, man this thing bahaves really good on the highway, so do I need more??? Could I work on those other bikes??? I have been working on all of my vehicles, all of my life, could I continue??

Then I think, what would I do with one of those bike up in the mountains of Colorado.. HuMMMM ??? well dont think I would, let say, let it all hang out. Weight??? Price???..........

Currently, I ride the hell out of this thing when we hit the trails.. ?????

You know.. I am going to ride this pig till it falls a part.......

FYI, This was just after I instaled the cooler, I shortened the lines after install, so tucked in tight..works GOOOD .

The only reason I laced the rims was I hit a chunk of lumber on the highway at 70mph, tweeked the rim bad. Dont know how I did not go slattt...Not my time I guess.

Well any way, the rims were a nice experience I would have never attempted other wise..

They look like they're the ones from the Scott Summers (SRC) fork brace. I think his company is out of business, don't know if it was bought by anyone.

Heres a couple of my pig. Picked it up for $1500.00 NZ, goes real well. I gave it a tidy up, had the rear wheel respoked and treated it to a new no toil air filter. Just waiting on some decent weather so I cn get out and ride it (or it can ride me)haha..
