They work well. I had Conti TKC80's on my xl600r and the Kenda's are just as good at half the price. Have about 2000 miles on them with not much wear showing. I ride a mix of single track dirt roads, gravel roads and pavement. Haven't had any handling issues with the Kendas even when pushing them. Run 22psi in the front and 25 in the rear. If I was riding on softer surfaces I'd lower those pressures.

I really wanted an XR650R, I looked all summer for nice one and they either sold before I could look at them or they were in really poor condition when I did see them. They always look better in the pictures. Anyway I found this beautiful 1998 XR600R in like new condition already plated and I couldn't pass it up. I'm really happy with this bike, but I still want a 650R. Maybe next year.

Good looking bike.  My '98L had the same tank.  Is that a steel L tank? 

 

I know where you probably get a good 650R if you decide you still want one.  It's currently in WV so it's a good way from you but it is at my best friend's house and he's wanting a new CRF so I'd say it's about to be on the market.  He bought it from me last year.

Hello TT! This is my first post and thought I'd share my PIG.

 

I bought it new in Nov. 2004. Did not do much to it at first. I rode it for a few years and put about 15,000 miles on it. Then I bought my self a new 2007 Kaw ZX14 in July of 2008 and the XRL sat for many, many years. Within the last few years my son has wanted to ride it and we've started upgrading things. A few mods are in my signature block. I just finished installing the Hot Cam and Dynojet kit. It was running like crap so I took it into my local shop. Got it out last Saturday, Oct. 29. Went to ride it on Sunday and the XRL wouldn't go faster then 40-45 mph with WOT. Not sure why. Taking it back into the shop tonight after work. Here is the last picture I have of it running in the desert from a few years ago. I'll get a new picture and post soon, too.

I had an '04 XR650L with 5200 miles on it...sold it...

Bought the '08 XR650L Supermoto with 3200 miles, full pipe, jets, aftermarket plastics, supermoto rims and tires for the same money...

I am replacing the back fender, adding a license plate bracket, better turn signals, and cleaning up some of the less desireable wiring "features" the last owner performed.
