13T sprocket

Does anybody else make a 13T front sprocket for the 650r anymore? Ironman no longer makes them. Smallest I have been able to find is 14T.

Saw you on other 13T posts big t. Still running 13/50? I have the stock 14/48 and I definitely am going to pick up a 13T for the trails. Anyone use the AFAM? How are they?

I use a 13T sometimes, Moose I believe.

Keep an eye on the underside of your chain slider for premature wear. It took a long time, but it did wear out on me. :)

I didn't know Moose made one. I'll check them out too. I keep a watch on the slider wearing but so far it is fine. Thanks

I just put a moose 13 tooth on mine last Friday so I could have a little slack for my new Tera-flex tire. It seemed to work out great so far. :)

I just switched to a 15 tooth on the front and I know I am bigger then you guys and it tractors me anywhere I want to go...why such a low gearing?

I just put a moose 13 tooth on mine last Friday so I could have a little slack for my new Tera-flex tire. It seemed to work out great so far. :D

Yeah, I'm riding tight trails here also. With the 13/50 it still will do close to 80 mph. That is plenty fast for me. I love the way the bike lugs with the 13/50 gearing. Makes it easier to ride around here.

I'm with you 100% Big Tee. I run the stock gearing and do single track in Michigan mostly in 3rd gear. I concentrate on not using the brakes and just try to be as consistant as possible. I think it's a lot faster than slamming on the brakes and gassing the hell outta the bike, especially when doing some mileage. Instead of shifting up to 2nd on a straight away, I'm shifting down when I really want to haul up a short hill or something. I was thinking about this while riding and when doing this, I'm probably using something like 5% of the bikes power. There is nothing like doing some single track and then getting to a fireroad to stretch the big pigs legs. I did over 120 miles of single track like this or sometimes much tighter over the weekend and averaged 22-24 mph.

I'm with you 100% Big Tee. There is nothing like doing some single track and then getting to a fireroad to stretch the big pigs legs.

The 650r will eat some hills up too. I ran the GNCC at Loretta Lynns a couple of weeks ago and the only place I could hang with some of the faster and smaller riders was on hills. I could gain time just about every hill on most of them. Granted once it flatend out again they were gone. You just don't want the big beast laying on you on a hill.

They're called trees my brother. We have lots of them and as Max Power illustrated so nicely, it's hard to get the pig outta 1st let alone out of 3rd. I think the 13T would allow me to do what RingKingPin is talking about. More time in 2nd instead of 1st. But when you need 1st, it's a nice low & slow. The 14T is definitely not a rock crawler.

Hey Skyriver, try lugging the bike around as is in 2nd or better yet 3rd. I'm talking about lugging doing like 30 in 3rd gear type riding. If you're coming across rock gardens this riding style won't work so well but for tight trails, it works really well. I have a high comp piston (11:1) so first gear is outta the question because the engine brake is so strong. 2nd is better but in 3rd you can just kinda coast around everything.

Your bike lugs going 30 in 3rd? You mean 10 in 3rd? At 14/48 the pig definitely isn't lugging at 30 in 3rd. Typo maybe?

Anyway, the engine brake is strong on these things, but I still want to slow it down if I hit major single track. Our single track here in Western WA can be pretty sketchy. Stuff you're definitely not going to "coast" thru, especially in 3rd.

Yah, you're right, it's really lugging at about 10mph in 3rd but even then it's still kinda lugging going 30mph in 3rd. This last weekend I did a lot of Michigan single track and did the vast majority in 3rd gear. Some of it's pretty tight and some of it's real tight (to the point where i'm either bouncing off the trees or leaning left to right to avoid getting stuck between two trees. I averaged about 24 mph riding like this. The only problem I run into riding like this with an 11:1 piston is that when I decide to "get on it" in 3rd at real low RPM's the bike will ping running off the water they call gas that I buy in the sticks of Northern Michigan. It's not a problem though, drop to 2nd and I'm off to the races. I find rolling through corners in 3rd, the engine braking isn't nearly as noticeable and it is by far the fastest way for ME to ride.

Where in Michigan did you ride?

Water!.....So that's why the gas is so cheap here :)
