XR650L: replace brake pads w/wheel on or off?

2 posts in this topic

I've only replaced my brake pads with the wheel on as it says in the Clymer manual. I guess the biggie is being able to push the caliper against the rotor to push the pads back and thusly refilling the hyd. reservoir. If the wheel was off, could you just open the reservoir and push with your fingers the pads back to make room for the new pads? Thanks for any input.

I have done it both ways. I used a pair of pliers to puls the caliper back in slowly. I did not notice any difference between the to methods.
