How many horsepower is a Yz 85 running?

I Know this is a four stroke sight but I have a question about my friends dirtbike. It is a 2004 Yamaha YZ85 he was just wondering how many horses is running.

last i heard was 17-18.. i do know the yz85 without a doubt has the strongest motor out of all the 85 2 strokes. here comes a flame war though

id say it pushes 20, which is prob the most out of any 80 besides the ktm

im pretty sure they don't break 20 but theyre in the upperteens. with some mods you could break 20 though

I'm ALMOST positive that its 17-18hp.

Right below 20hp, but with a few mods (reed cage, pipe, porting, etc) you can make it over 20 easily. The YZ85 is the fastest mini in stock form.

I rode a YZ85 for a while and me and my buddy who had a RM85 of the same year, bone stock, drag raced and we were head to head the whole time. It was pretty much a tie. So i wouldn't say that they are the fastest.

my brother has a 2004 yz 85 and it has a pro-circuit pipe,silencer,boyesen reeds, and engine mods, i think it has around 20 hp or so.

o and pimp-daddy, it depends on what yours, and your friends weights are. if hes like 150 adn ur 118 then it can make a difference. but my brother won everyone of his races this past year on his yz be4 we even got a pipe. the only kid keeping up with him was a kid on a bored out kx 85 adn sometimes another on a bored yz 80. steven (my bro) was catching up too and passing have of the 85 jr class at baja mx, after they took off be4 him. so my opinion is yamaha is the better of the 85s

it only has 14 "real world horse power @ the rear wheels, I have a 87' yz80 and it is the fastest little bastard I've ever ridden though, faster than the CR80 ,I know you are talking about a yz85' but mine is bored to a 84cc- stock is 82cc anyway.. ok now let's stop all this talk of 2smoker's/ 14hp is all you have....

IMPOSSIBLE...My 2003 CR85 had 17.

theres been some advancements since 87, new 85's are all in the 17-19 horse range.

I just raced my tricked tt-r125 vs. my friend on his yz85 and i only beat him because he layed it down in the corner twice but i could clear all the jumps he could it was a awsome track

my 2006 cr85 had 21 horsepower bone stock. now i have a 105cc big bore kit fully ported, vforce reeds, sst pipe, and a powernow. now its runnin around 31 hp.

? ? That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. No way is a bored out 85 going to make that kind of power show me a dyno chart before and after and maybe I'll believe you . A 250 can barely push 50 if that.
