Need Help

Purchased a 01 YZ426F recently and it didn't come with a manual so I need some information/help on a couple issues.

The seller told me he only put 4 to 5 hours on the bike so I'm guessing he never changed the oil and filter. When I removed the oil filter I was alarmed to see small metal chips/shavings in the filter. Would this be normal for the 1st oil change? If this wasn't it's 1st oil change is it normal to find metal in the filter?

When draining the oil from the frame I also noticed there was a drain plug on the bottom of the motor, I drained it from this location also, was this correct?

Last question, how much oil is required when the filter is replaced?

Thanks

Anyone?

With oil filter replacement, it holds 1.3Liters, without 1.4, and total capacity is 1.5Liters. If the bike has a new engine, then it is normal to see small amounts of metal in the filter. If I change my oil frequently, then I rarly see anything on the filter.

I have a 2000 model - not sure if it has the same oil capacity, but mine is 1.6 with filter change. If you search the forum there is a link to a manual in pdf format somewhere.

Yes, correct to drain from the bottom plug and normal to see some metal in the filter as the clutch, gearbox and engine all share the same oil. I change it every 6 hours.

These specs are for the 2002 YZ426. (I forgot to mention that)

Thanks Guys!

Small metal flakes in the oil filter are normal, even for a bike with lots of hours. Chunks or large slivers are not.

Where is the Oil filter located?
