the right bike

right now I have a yz 250, but i'm getting ready to sell it for a 450. I go to the dunes alot and i like duning and racing the hill. I love my yamaha and i really want a yzf 450 but I'm not sure about the four speed tranny racing the hill. I want to Know which bike is better for my type of riding style the yzf or crf

My 450 is geared 15/49, which is the same as a 14/46, so it's 2 teeth higher than stock. It's capable of 90 mph on pavement with this gearing. I would think that would be enough.

The 4 speed is not the same transmission with one gear left out, it's 4 gears that cover almost the same range of speed that 5 used to. It's not a handicap of any kind.

In any case, mine is now over two years old with nothing other than maintenance done; not even a valve adjustment. You won't get that from a CRF.

Isn't performing regular valve adjustments crucial to the longevitiy of the engine? It seems that by having the bragging rights of never having adjusted your valves you might be sacrificing you bike.

I am possitive what grey means IS , he has checked the valve clearances and found they needed NO adjustments. I have done this same thing , i have a 2k2 426f and baght it used a year and a half ago and cracked open the valve cover a month ago , for the first time to find, much to my pleasure every valve was right in the midle of specs PERFECTLY, so i needed to do nothing but put the cover back on and go ride some more. I LOVE THIS BLUE MACHINE. :):D:):p

Right you are :)

I've checked mine 6 or 7 times. They haven't moved.

I wouldn't worry about the 4 speed. The valves on the Honda scared me away from one. I haven't been a bit disappointed with YZ.

What oil are you boys running in your blue machines? Sounds like it's doing a good job.

phixeous, I don't do any dune riding, but for what it's worth, I couldn't be happier with my 426. Solid piece of machinery. :)

It isn't the oil, it's the engineering and execution of design.

But, I run Mobil 1 MX4T 10w-40
