Steering dampner

5 posts in this topic

Need your help guys. I have missed all the past post regarding the scotts dampner and seat tank change for a 00 WR400. I want to know if the mods are worth the money. I am looking for the best tank and the softest seat out there. Please post the pros and cons to the Scotts dampner.

Trash,

Scotts Stabilizer

Pros: Can’t say enough here. Once you ride with one you will never be happy without one.

Cons:

1) Need a different bar clamp/Scotts mount for diff. bar positions, but this doesn’t apply to stock WR top clamp.

2) Difficult to use with crossbar equipped bars, although you can have them ship it with arm rotated 180 degrees (or pull and reinstall arm yourself) and it should clear most crossbars. I have Carmichael TwinWalls and can fit crossbar pad on and still have good access to controls. They say you need 40 mm between top of bar and bottom of crossbar to clear but you can get away with a few less. I believe it will clear stock bars.

That’s all I can think of. IMO it’s the best mod you can do to any bike, especially out west (open spaces, higher speeds). Expensive, but one of the few things that is really worth it IMO.

I have a YZ so I don’t know about the seat, I thought IMS was only company that made a replacement seat/tank combo.

Hope this helps!

IMS makes a four gallon tank that does not require replacing the seat or moving the hot start to the bars. Your stock rad. shrouds bolt right up and everything looks and works great
