Turn the pilot screw out in 1/2 turn increments, but don't go out more than 3 1/2 turns. To check the current pilot screw setting, turn it clockwise and count the number of (1/2) turns it takes to reach the closed position until it's lightly seated. This assumes that the tab either on the carb or screw has been removed. You'll be able to tell. The pilot scew is the located on the bottom of the carb closest to the cylinder going towards the engine.

Back it out again and add 1/2 turn. Ride & it see how it runs. If it's too far out already, or it gets that way after you've made the adjustments, chances are a larger pilot jet is needed. Check the archives for the "how to."
